how come i never heard about this one?

  3. Either you're not up on your cars or you don't get the right magazines. <IMG SRC="http://www.supercarforums.com/servlets/cMsg/html/emoticons/smile.gif"> The SUPERCARS.NET picture is of the wrong car, however.

  5. I'm very up on my cars and I get the right magazines, and I have never heard of this car until recently. was it offered in the US? and why does it weigh so much.....for a luxury sports coupe?<!-- Signature -->

  6. The SL 73 was a special production model, which I believe had to be ordered directly from AMG. I know it was never listed as a regular production model.

It weighs so much for two reasons. Firstly its got a 7.3litre V12 sat in there, which is obviously a big, heavy engine. Also the fact its a proper old "skool" Mercedes, with genuine tank like build quality. Hence the fact it weighs over two metric tons.

  7. Jeeez that's a monster engine. The engine alone must cost 40K. *sigh* one more car on my "if only I were omnipotent" list.

  8. I've seen this car in Auto Motor &Sport TV and mag,it's awesome but it has a lot of weight to haul...i think there is a SL-55AMG version of this generation of the SL,not the R-230 476bhp one..the old one with the 5.5l v8 354bhp.<!-- Signature -->

  9. there is a SL55 based on this model, there also was a SL60 AMg with a 6.0 V8, the sl55 replaced it...

  10. I can't say if an SL 55 AMG existed but the version I know is the SL 60 AMG as you mentionned. It is based on the SL 500 V8 and it has an upgrade to 6.0L which boost the power to 381 hp for a little less than 1950kg.
It was a really great car. <!-- Signature -->

    You're right.
Mercedes has never produced that car.It was built by AMG for its own.

That's right, up until 1998 AMG regularly hot rodded benzes in small production runs for customers directly, not only through MB dealerships.
In 1998 MB acquired majority stake in AMG then all the orders went thru MB dealerships.

There are two AMG divisions: one for production models: C32/SLK32/CL55/CLK55/E55/ML55/SL55/G55 and one for special orders using 6.3L (or 7.3L) V12's wcustom transmissions, customized suspensions, custom anything, depending on the client.

These cars are out there, usually badged as S63, CL63,E63, SL63, SL73 etc.
but you don't hear much about them.

If you've got the bucks-- they welcome special orders.

  15. Nurburgrin, you seem to know a lot about AMG, so can you tell me if the C55 was a special product cuz I've seen it once in an AMG report on TV.<!-- Signature -->

  16. safe car ... just sucks that it's auto <!-- Signature -->

  17. They did make a C55 and yes it was a special voiture.believe it or not, they even managed to fit in the 6.0 litre from the Sl60 you mentioned earlier as well in there.wonder how they did that but hey, they are AMG!!

  18. Ive seen a pic of a 190E with the 6.0 hammer engine...

anyone knows if this was for real ?<!-- Signature -->

  21. It isn't a coupe

  22. neva herd of this..or the sl730

  23. The SL 55 amg replaced teh SL60 AMG which was one of teh last AMG cars befor ethe mercedes buyout
teh Heavy spoilers etc did not fit with mercs image, so at teh introduction of teh new engine, mercamg stuck it in, hence new more powerful model
The SL60 engine was from teh old AMG 6.0 litre Hammer of teh 80's

  24. teh C55 was indeed a special model, produced by amg private commisions department, there ar e only about 30 of tehm worldwide, and it was initially offereed to existing customers whol collected teh amg products

  25. I cant beleive you have not heard of something called a "figure of speech", used to describe something which is like something else
Bullit proof has been used to describe all mercs up to w124 (old, old E class) and w140 S class.
new mercs a re seriously cheaply built by comparison, porr plastics
