Re: M3 or M5

1. Both are great cars in my opinion, but i like the styling of the M3 a little better and i dunno im just drawn to smaller cars.

2. M3 or M5

Now I think this is a good topic. Both are luxurious, about the same speed. But one's a little faster with a good V8 in it even if it is Germain I love it! I personally like the M5 a little better mainly cuz it's bigger and seems to even out the BMW look a little more to me. I'm 6'5" so I think I'd sit more comfortably in the M5 too. Plus it's more of a family car so when you and your family are out to dinner and some little punk in his Mustang acts like his car's the shit, you'd smoke his ass and your family would enjoy the thrill of victory with you! Also is the M3 a coupe or a sedan. I can't tell very well with the pictures if it's four door or not, maybe I need some glasses! Well gimmie your opinions on this topic and why, I'd love to see who like what. And no more comparisons with the Vette. I hated that the magazines even compared a Sports car with a sports sedan. What an unusual competition. Especially since the M3 held it's own! But keep the topic at hand please!

3. Maybe I misunderstood but the M5 is not faster then the M3, but I wasn't sure if that was what you ment. As far as the choosing goes I thing its a personal decision. If you have a family then the idle car is M5. If it's just you and your girl and you like the sporty look then I would go with the M3. For me the M3 is my prime choice but it's hard to compare.

Thank god you know how to read! At least someone does. Your right that's not what I meant. I meant to say ones bigger not faster. Thanks for repointing that out to me. I think it's hard to compare too but that's why I want other people's imput. Next thing you know "I AM RICH" is going to claim he own this one too!

5. The M3 and M5 are very similar. But the M3 has 2 doors and the M5 has 4. Personnally I dont like four door cars. And since the M3 is quicker its another reason I like the M3. But they both have the same amount of seats (unless the M3 has one less I'm not sure.)

6. Cool man thanks for replying. I think both cars haul some serious ass! But I'm still for the M5. Don't really know any other sedan for the price that can combine serious numbers with great looks and luxury. Both are great but the M5 to me has more class. I'm seriously thinking of buying an M5 when I graduate from college. I know it's expensive but I have my ways. Hey does anyone know of aftermarket mods possible for a car like this?

7. It's hard to argue against the M5, but I still like the M3 better. Most of my friends like the M5 too, but I don't know if its the side flares or the fact that I have always like 2 doors better but I would not choose a 5 over the 3.

8. i dont no what it is but there is somethign bout the M3 that makes me wanna take it over a M5. but does it really matter... dont matter what u pick u still getting an M and to just be able to say i own an M is a joy to me lol.. but ya i woudl take the M3. maybe cuz its more sporty and cost less, after all i'm still under 20 so i got a long way before i can save up for a $100000 M5

Pretty good points you made there! Both are almost the same speed, but the m3 is a little faster. Probably becuase the weight. But I'd rather have the M5 for the room and that bad-ass NA V8! It's almost as if Europe wants some of that American Muscle market that we have you know? I wonder how nice this car sounds when you rev it's engine. Anyone know?

10. RustStangs, just imagine revving a NASCAR and you'll know what the M5 sounds like. From the deep bass at idle, all the way up to the redline it sounds like you should be lapping Daytona Pure American muscle car noise. And I love it.

Between the M3 and M5, I'd take the M5. This is an honest opinion, mainly due to the noise, and in the tests I've seen the M5 has been slightly quicker.

I totally agree with you man. I think the m5 is a little faster too! Plus like you said I like noise and I want to hear this baby's rumble. I think I'm honeslty going to buy one after I graduate college. Thanks for the info man! Don't bother responding to Mr Rich he's full of shit, maybe if we treat him like a bee leave him alone and he'll leave us alone. However I couldn't resist in the M5 column he claims he won't insult italians, well I've got a quote of him earlier insulting them so check it out!

12. i kinda like the look of the m3 better but i think i'll take the m5. even if i don't need the 4 doors

13. M3, it's fast, beautiful, comfortable and it's a BMW.

Although I like both cars and all BMW M cars, the M3 is faster with a 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds with the M5's maximum potential being 4.8 seconds. A difference that only matters for bragging rights and nothing more.

15. Depends on whose figures you look at.

From Autocar I've seen the M5 @ 4.6secs 0-60
M3 @ 4.8secs 0-60

All academic though, both damn fast.

16. the m5 would be easier to enjoy because the engine is less revy(torque peak is 3800, 1100 less than in the m3), so the power delivery is more subtle. getting the m3 to really go would attract a lot of attention because it needs lots of revs.
personaly i would take an M3 though, it's just the man. if cool was a car, it would be an M3.

17. i have experienced riding in both an M5 and an M3... the M3 feels much faster, but the M5 give u more confidence on going faster. the M5 also sounds a tiny bit better with the V8, but both are lovely. both car's suspension is pretty stiff affecting the ride(it gotta be that stiff with that power)... but the M5 have more space providing better comfort.

18. Well im lucky enough to have a godfather with an m3 and i also had ridden in an m5. Both cars fantastic. M5 can really be a luxury car if you need it to be, or back road burner. all while sitting 4-5 up and room in the trunk for the week.

True this is the ultimate family fast car! Somebody pulls up to you after you and your family ate at a restaurant, and they don't realize what you have under the hood! You take his ass before the sound of your throaty V8 registers in his head that he's in trouble. BYE-BYE! I am defenitely considering getting one of these things after college!

20. Of course I'm talking about the M5, I love the M3, they look much better in person, but I'd rather have an M5 for a big guy like me! Got to be able to fit my 6'5" frame comfortably!

21. M5 for sure. It's a big package of goodness. It's fast, good handling (for a sedan, at least), comfy, spacious, 4 door, and it's high quality. Even though the M3 is still sportier, I'd still go with da M5, cuz it's got most of the things that the M3 has, plus some more.

22. Both great cars, but i lean towards convertibles. I would rather have an M3 cabiolet. I know the hadling won't be up to par with the coupe and acceleration suffers a little but hey I just love the way it looks!
As for mods the 5 liter from the M5 fits in the M3's engine bay. It would have come like that from factory if it wasn't for the fact that BMW felt it would hurt M5 sales.

23. They are both, fast, and luxurious, but the M3 is considerably less money than the M5. I prefer the M5 because it is really fast, and looks really cool. It is the only sedan that i like other than the Audi S8

24. The other day i pulled up next to a brand new silver M3 at a light that led into a round-about. It was a nice day so we had the windows down. I looked over at the guy and gave him a nod of approval and told him i loved his car. When the light went green we cruised slowly around the round-about (i'm lucky i didn't hit anything cuz i couldn't stop staring at the M3) and when the road straightened out he lit that thing up...man it sounded great and it was gone in a flash. Anyways, I'd have to say i would pick the M3 since i don't have any kiddies or a wife to haul around yet, but either way you'd be one lucky S.O.B. to own either. By the way, has anyone seen a new M3 with the optional 19" rims on it?
