M5, simple, nothing to it. and with the supercarged version of the E55 that is cool considering that u need it even to come to close, oh and by the way the next gen M5 will have a naturally aspirated 5 litre V8 putting out about 500bhp, have a nice day.
500 hp? That would be pretty sweet. Is BMW planning on manafacturing it or is it being done by an aftermarket tuner? And in case you didn't read my post above with the website link, I actually own a BMW, an E30 thats 400 hp and weighs 1200 kg. It runs low 12s down the quarter so I don't think i'd really have to much trouble taking an M5. But i'd really wouldn't mind seeing that 500 hp M5, and a CSI sport version of the new M3 with all the extras and traction control stripped out of it, I know they've got one in development.
I'm not sure about that 500bhp factory M5. I would think there would be more info out about it, but I havn't seen anything. Regardless, the E55 isn't meant to be as fast as the M5. The M5 is a sports car, then a sedan. The E55 is a sedan first. There's no denying the M5 is much sportier. If I wanted to take one of them to the track, I'd take the M5 without a doubt. But, if I wanted to pick up my kids from school, I'd go with the E55. It's not really fair to compare them stat for stat.
i have to admit da e55 is a great car but, damn, m5 is too #$%#in strong! bmw's have always beat benz when it comes to smaller coupes (3 series vs. benzes c class) and also da 5 series beats da e class....da only thing BMW hasnt beaten mercadez is da luxary sedas.....u havta admit da sclass is one of da top of da line luxury cars u culd get...
Depends what your looking for in a car. The m5 isnt much faster than the e55 anyway. I personally would much rather the m5 as I love manuals, it has mroe power, and I dont really like the look of the e55. By saying that I do beleive that the mercs brakes and handling are a tad better while the merc also runs a bit smoother and has more sound deadening materials and a thicker laminated firewall. I also honestly doubt the next m5 will have 500hp stock. Maybe 450hp whcih is still an extremely high amount but well capable of handling potently. I also have reason to beleive the next e55 will have a detuned version of the 355kw (480hp) 700nm (460ft/lb)?? Moster donk from the sl55. That would be sweet!
there is a company that tunes a M5 to 500 hp but Bmw doesent make one from the factory yet<!-- Signature -->
i would rather hear all the 400 hp engine scream then not here it because there is a thick fire wall like the E55 AMG. the M5 Engine Sounds soooooooooo good when i get into hi RPM. also the cars sounds really loud on the outside when u hit the gass. it sounds like heaven<!-- Signature -->
I'd take an E55. It has a much better platform than the M5. The E55 makes almost as fast lap times as the M5 with an automatic transmission and 51 hp less!! If the E55's suspension would be a little stiffer and it would have a manual transmission it could be as fast as the M5 around a track, with 51 hp less!! Oh, and according to many mags the E55 even handles better. For all the people that think that an engine that puts out more hp with smaller displacement is better than a bigger one with a little less displacement, I say you are wrong. The point of the big displacement is in torque. Look at the torque ratings for these cars. The M5 has 498 nm torque and the E55 has 530 nm torque. So the E55 has much more. And remember, torque is more important than hp, because torque is the actaul work or force an engine produces, hp is just a number that is calculated from it. Torque makes the car accelerate. And the E55 has more of it. High torque is usually reached with bigger displacements or with a super/turbocharger. Now if the new E55 gets a supercharger, it will have even more torque. So there's actaully nothing really great about small engines with much hp. And for those who think that a manual transmission is all that is fun in driving, you could buy yourself a clutch and a stick shift and install it at home into your armchair. There you could play around with your manual transmission and have all the fun needed for driving. Anyway, race cars have only manual transmissions because they have to have a certain gear during corners, and to optimise that, they have a manual because the driver knows the exact situation and in what gear he should drive. But automatic transmissions are much faster than manuals.<!-- Signature -->
I'll take the M5. But this is a hard choice. I'm a Bimmer fan and the m5 is much sportier, and much better looking. Both cars are great, its a matter of opinion. M POWER
An Manual box is better than an auto, because a you can do fast standing starts, get revs up, drop the clutch, and 2 because you have much more control, u are driving the car, the cars not driving you, and also torque is a good factor, but its mainly for low dow acceleration, in the high revs, its the bhp thats doing the work<!-- Signature -->
I am ashamed of this debate now. Simply because I read down here in Oz in a magazine that Porsche's new 4WD posted a quicker lap time round the ring than the M5 This can't be right can it? Say its not.

We're the driver who know how to select the right gear. You're just an average driver so keep quiet and stick to your arcade ride. And nope, automatic gearbox is not faster than manuals if you know how.
I'll just take an M5 with the latest version of the Sequential SMG gearbox out of the new M3.<!-- Signature -->
I'll take the M5. All this comparing about the M5 and AMG E55 is ridiculous. AMG is Mercedes factory upgrade. Why not bring in AC Schnitzer and Alpina for BMW or even Dinan for BMWNA. Now compare who's better. nough said
no offense to all you people who sit here and post car comparisons, but i've had enough of seeing "M5 v.s. ____". there is no road car with a v8 that will even come close to beating an M5. And if there were a car i'd be willing to admit it. so just because i have an M5 and i'm and avid BMW driver, that dosen't mean that i would back the M5 against ANY car. Only against any stock road car with a v8 on the road right now.<!-- Signature -->
E30 S38 Turbo : yea i wonder, why not bring in Brabus, Carlsson, Koeing, Lorinser, Renntech, Sauber and Stillen for MB?? Oh and ofcourse, you can't forget AMG. In case you didn't know all, AMG has got a new engine, 476 ready ponnies ready to get some roughing up. Oh, and ofcourse, there is also the new 6.3AMG Engine.. which should also be very nice...... I wonder how BMW is gonna respond to that??
if there is a new M6 it might have the formula 1 based V10 with 700hp. Guaranteed to blow any AMG away.

They want to be able to actually sell the 6 series, and the M6 won't sell easily with the price 700hp comes with.<!-- Signature -->
bmw makes the best tranny's in the world, yes better than Ferrari. With the new BMW M3 GTR coming out u benzo lovers better go home. This is the best car in the world, and the M3 is the 2nd best. Name another car that looks this good, handles this good and performs this well. And it has 5 seats!
BIMMERMAN: Uhhh, who ever said that Ferrari transmissions were good? Jerky as hell. BMW M3 GTR vs CLK GTR haha! I wonder which car would win on the racetrack?
I don't want to like this car. But thhe M5 makes it almost impossible not to. The M5 is the best 4door in the world (mabye Bentley Arnage Red label or T better). If you don't like this car you got to respect the car.<!-- Signature -->
