  1. you're stupid

  2. Pardon me. I meant to write "gravitational forces" instead of "gravity forces".Next time I shall be more careful.

  3. stupid

the people that put off the sales of the elise to america solong are definitely stupid but fortunately they are finnaly going to do it .

  4. You know what's stupid? American emmisions standards f#$%ing everything up for those of us in canada, because the North American market is realy only the usa. Nobody else. Just the Yankees.<!-- Signature -->

  5. Americans are just mad because in a test with the Sun International Lotus Elise ( has the integra type R engine and tranny ) beat the Ford Mustang Cobra R in every test performed. including

    0-60
60-0 ( 119 feet for the elise and 122 for the mustang )
1/4 mile ( 12.6 at 110MPH compared to the 13.5 seconds at 108MPH for the mustang.
    Skidpad ( elise pulled 1.02Gs, mustang .95Gs )
and was 3 speconds faster on the road course than the mustang

The lotus only had 192HP compared to the 385HP of the mustang. but the mustang wieghs a massive and stupidly high 3,590LBs compared to the lotus's sprinter wieght of 1,700LBs. and they costs the exact same price!

    stupid, ya stupid americans.

    Take the lotus any day.

  7. I don't care who is stupid. I just want this car to get imported to the U.S. Lotus is one of those legendary brands that kids dream of. And B.T.W. The U.S. emissions standards ARE stupid!<!-- Signature -->

  8. Damn right PGT. I want to see these and TVR's in the states. I am falling in love with the British sports cars. The Griffith and this are such great ideas. <!-- Signature -->

Yes the Elise did beat the Mustang. No, the Elise does not have a Type-R engine, it has a Rover K-Series.<!-- Signature -->

  11. Actually, Phunk was correct.

The Sun international Elise has a type R engine in it to pass the emission standards. The Rover engine was taken out because... well, obviously the emissions were too high :(. But thats okay because the Type R engine has more horsepower <IMG SRC="http://www.supercars.net/servlets/cMsg/html/emoticons/smile.gif">.

  12. Phunk, I'm not sure who you were arguing with. You proved the point this thread is making weather you were trying to or not. Yes, that is why we Americans are mad that it hasn't been imported to us. It's a great car, and for the performance it has, it is extreamly inexpensive. We're just stuck with the Mustang. I only wish I could get one as soon as they hit our shores.

P.S. to keep fellow Mustang fans from changing the subject of this thread, I must say; I actually love the Mustang, it is one of my favorite American cars. However, it is outclassed by many many cars from over seas.

see this mr guru. http://www.renaultsport.com/pr_els01.html the only way you can get a street legal elise in N.A. and then check this out. http://www.prototyperacing.com/Lotus.htm very interesting.<!-- Signature -->

  14. Hey, Ill be the first to give this thing credit. As a lover of big Iron sleds, It may seem strange for me to be giving credit where we all know its due. I like the Elise, there a mean little road cource runner, but please remember that is what it was designed to do, you wana run flat out against a drag tuned mustang or vette than your not playing in the wrong league your in a whole new sport to begin with. Im well aware of the bias opinion that Americans can only race in a straight line, ok pull your head out of your ass. We did design a car that made Ferrari go wimpering from the tracks back in the 70's and that was a Ford of all things.

As for the whole Emmisions thing yeah we get shafted. Thats why I hate when people compare Foreign HP and Torque ratings to domestic ratings cause they dont have the same restrictions we do. Hell an LT1 V8 makes 85 more HP with out all that EGR, O2 sensor, Cat-converter crap. But guess what we got the EPA and they arnt getting any more laxed.

I do think this little monster should be brought over here. One im tired of all these yuppies in there Boxters and Z3's. Its time for some new blood. <!-- Signature -->

I'd love to see an elise slaughter a boxter or z3. burst some bug pocket bubbles. and all those guys who spend countless hours and too much money on their economy cars, trying to make them racers, start with a sure thing, like a lotus. You can't brag about how good a car is if you have to rod the shit out of it to squeeze some performance from it. The best cars, like the elise, were born that way.<!-- Signature -->

LOL, you should come on a drive with me then - I eat Boxsters for brekkie. And Z3s, M3s, S2000s....

Always through the twisties though. I ran up to what I thought was a Boxster on a dual carriage way, took the outside lane to over take it and realised it was a 911 cab. Oops - as he booted it to about 150mph, and I changed back to the slow lane LOL

  17. lol... yea... 911's are pretty speedy... i test drove one and almost soiled myself. As for the m3 though, you say your elise can best a new m3? thatd be a race id love to see... i think itd be pretty even around a track... m3's got the speed, but the elise outclasses it in handling... but if you say you can burn an m3, ill take your word for it<!-- Signature -->

  18. Dang skippy PGT, I am not hatin' on anyone or calling them stupid (Phunk) we Americans need this car. I personally don't like many american cars anyway besides the corvette and viper and this would be a perfect compliment to our Detroit muscle-car inspired Viper and Vette. It cost the same and with the engine work most likely would smoke Porsches, now thats a beautiful thing.

  19. I WANT THE EXIGE!!! this is a great alternitive, Doesn't look like a square on wheels[mustang], and makes the best use of it's power.<!-- Signature -->

Yes the Exige and Elise Sport 190 have better acceleration figures and better handling due to their light weight but there's only so much top speed 190bhp can be converted into reagardless of weight so on a straight of any distance the M3 would kill any variant of the Elise including the Exige. The Lotus wouldn't be able to make up that time in the corners.
The Nurburgring track times prove my point

    M3 : 8 min 22 sec
Exige 8 min 42 sec (This was an Exige with only 180bhp but still 20 seconds is a long time)

I still would much prefer the Exige just because the experience would be 100 times better.

Actually, Audi makes two versions for North American use. The Canadian version and the USA version. The canadian version without the emissions, and the US version with all the required emissions equipment. So as you can see, other European companies are just very behind in the production and development of their vehicles. You know who told me this? My sister. Don't feel to bad though, she works for Audi.

Also, wasn't the Thunderbird you mentioned in your signature originally called a "Supercoupe" ("or Super Coupe", I don't know), the reason being because it was supercharged?<!-- Signature -->

I'm an american muscle/sportscar fan, but i'm actually happy that the elise beat the Cobra R. It proves that there is some affordable competition out there. When I say affordable, I mean less than $75,000, but Vipers are acceptable (even though I don't like them that much) as affordable because some were less than $75g.<!-- Signature -->

  23. I like the Lotus Elise and have a certain fondness for lightweight pure sports cars. However comparing a Sun International Elise to a Cobra R is not really a fair comparison to either car. The cost is the same but this matter is irrelevant.Comparing a tuned car vs. a stock car is always foolish because it invites the following argument.

"Yea, well, an Elise may be fast but I could buy a used Mustang for $7,000 and then put $48,000 worth of modifications into it and it would burn the Elise." Of course this argument is silly and unfair but so is comparing a tuned car to a stock car.
That said I would prefer the Elise because I beleive it looks better and I enjoy driving small, lightweight cars.I favor handling to drag racing because gravitational forces can be felt in corners at low, legal speeds.
