1. THIS COSTS 62,000 DOLLARS.......

62K, THATS BIG DOLLARS THAT IS !!!! THIS CAR IS A JOKE !!! IT LOOKS LIKE A JOKE... IT PEFORMS LIKE A JOKE ... AND WHEN PEOPLE ASK WHAT YOU PAYED FOR IT....YOU'LL BE A JOKE.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS COST MORE THAN AN M3 !!!!

2. umm this would rape an m3, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds

3. ummm yeah but M3 does 0-100 in 10.1 secs beat that ! and
ummm the M3 is a good car not a Joke car.

and ummmm the M3 is currentley the best car u can buy...
no offense intended with the ummms,.. its just a Joke,...like the car.

4. m3 has 0-60 of 11.6 not 10.1 or what ever you said

Im pretty sure its 10.1 0-100mph.... correct me if i'm wrong...

Is this a good car ??

6. Have you ever even seen an AIV Roadster? Much less been in one? This thing hauls ass! Barnone. The AIV can't handle an M5, but it will tear a new asshole in an M3. The M5 is also twice the cost of this car, too. Also, this car is more bang for the buck than ANY sports car under 100K.
I comment on this b/c my friend is the grandson of Don Panoz. So, yes, my view is kinda skewed in liking this car.

7. I never once mentions the M5 dumb ass....I said M3 which could quite easily keep up with this joke car...

8. the panoz will smoke a whole lot of cars, including the almighty m3. while performance is a huge appeal of this car..the look is too. you dont have to like it but those that do like it LOVE LOVE LOVE it. it looks like nothing else and is a very pure design for what a sports car should be. have you ever seen or **heard** one, they sound incredible..like nothing else in the world. this car kicks ass..if you like sports cars and roadsters. guess you dont...

9. Re: The Viper is Under Powered!

well i do like the m3, even though i hate how it looks, so boxy, there is nothing special in the design, just another family souped up car, but nice nonetheless.

but well here are the specs for the two cars u decide.

Panoz 00' (62k)
0-60---4.6secs
0-100---11.7secs
1/4mile---12.7secs@106mph
Skidpad---.97g
Top Speed---140mph (gearing of the 5-speed limited)
60-0mph braking 110ft.
Slalom---67mph

BMW M3 00' (45k, bone base model)
0-60---4.7secs
0-100---11.6secs
1/4mile---13.2secs@109mph
Skidpad---.91g
Top Speed---155mph (limited, unlimited said to be 162mph)
60-0mph braking 112ft.
Slalom---65.1mph

to me throw on a 6-speed like the m3 has, hopefully a getrag, and u got a car that can out run the m3, or match it.

also the panoz looks like no other, and shows its a roadster, just looks freaking kewl, and way more attractive than the family car of the m3.

and out handles it, and due to it being lighter a little faster in the turns and 1/4mile.

OH YEA dont forget the panoz is 29hp underpowered, add more then see what happens, its a ford, the aftermarket for the cars engine is just so incredible, one of the biggest at that. so getting more is just a mere 5k or less away.

panoz all the way. plus a loaded m3 runs into the high 50's, so yea the prices are the same, or close to it.

panoz, the american way, oh yea, just sit back and enjoy the ride (the girls as much as the car )

10. thanx wolfie for the stats, It shows how good the M3 is ! and for less money. The m3 has quality this panoz clearly doesn't....

Just look at that panoz....62k !!! WHAT !!! Its a Ford V8 kit car, and to me that just proves its a pile of crap.
oh and a JOKE !!

11. The Panoz isn't a kit car, its been 100% homolagated for the US, it only uses a Ford engine, and other misc. parts. Just as other cars use parts from tier 1 suppliers, these parts just happen to say "Ford".

As for Panoz having a lack of quality, have you ever seen one? I've seen them, and been thru the factory, and they are very nice cars, with a very nice build quality.

Why does it cost more than an M3? Danny Panoz's build cost is higher, he builds one car (currently only the Esperante). Where as BMW has a wide range of cars, thus the overhead costs are spread thinner. Niche car builders always face this problem, which is why so many don't survive.

12. Hand Built mean anything anymore? Also he's right the after market for a Mustnag engine is incredible. You can get a Ford Racing catalog (see your dealer) and get parts from that.

13. Nice. Though Bang for buck goes to the Westfield Mega Busa IMHO.

I'd have a panoz every day over a BMW. primarily cos rich wankers drive BMWs...

14. Well here in america we cant get westfields (or any of those lotus seven cars). Also shall we compare this to the M3 convertable, the one with all the chassis flex. AIV means aluminum intensive vehicle, this gives it its light wieght and rigidity. The M3 is a great car and is one of my favorite (especially the CSL), but you see them all over, I have never seen this car. Add the supercharger option and this car would fly. The M3's development costs ten times what it took to make this car.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And yet this panoz still cost more!! what does that tell you? The M3 is probably the best built car out there! and it makes this look like an overpriced overhyped kitcar. what a Joke!

16. "And yet this panoz still cost more!! what does that tell you? The M3 is probably the best built car out there! and it makes this look like an overpriced overhyped kitcar. what a Joke!"

You're right, the M3 is one of the best cars out there. There is a lot of money spent on the development of the M3 (that's why there's SMG II and the CSL and the Strassenversion). However, a lot of money went into the development of the Mustang's V8 too. Panoz also spends a lot of money testing an perfecting his cars. Danny doesn't mess around. He knows people are skeptical of cars from companies they've never heard of, and he doesn't want to give them a reason to think that Panoz is a company to avoid.

As for the Roadster being overpriced, I think your forgetting the "AIV" part. Aluminum is very expensive when compared to steel, just ask the NSX engineers over at Honda. Also, put some options in an M3, expecially the convertible, and you'd be pushing $63,000, no problem.

As for overhyped, I don't know anyone who isn't really into cars that knows what this is. They all think it looks cool and they like that it's fast, but they've never heard of it. Oh yeah, it's also NOT A KIT CAR.

I can't tell whether you're actually serious about this car being a joke or not. We've already shown that this would ***** slap an M3 all the way around any track. The only thing that this lacks is top speed, which almost never determines a race except on the biggest and straightest of tracks. Slap a 6-speed and a roof on this baby, though, and i'd bet it would sit quite comfortably at 165mph.

Don't get me wrong, I'd take an M3 as a daily driver over this Roadster any day, but for a day of driving around with the top down through some twisty roads at illegal speeds, the Panoz is hard to beat.

17. yeah it would be quite fun to cruise in this panoz but when you realise its just a ford v8, and a 62,000 dollar panoz badge you'de wish you had got an M3 convertable or maybe a prowler like that guy says... this car doesn't even look nice. I think its overpriced for what it is. maybe i was a bit harsh calling it a joke.

18. Just a Ford v8 and Panoz badge? what happened to the superformed aluminum body, and extruded aluminum frame?

19. Yeah, this isn't just a wacky, overpriced Mustang. That's like saying the NSX is just a $90,000 V6 Accord. Picture this with the Cobra R modifications on it...it would fly! It's not practical and it might not be pretty (though I like its looks), but this car has potential and a very good starting point.

20. I wanna see this car with the new SVT cobra engine... 390hp. Although locating the intercooler would be impossibl.. ahh well.. i can dream cant I? I like this car. I wish America built more like it. While it may not be able to beat a Z06. It'll look damn good trying! But then again what car less than 100k can beat the Z06..especially the 2002! (no tuner cars either). Even ferrari has to make a car 4 times its price in order to compete (did anyone else just hear Enzo spinning in his grave?) But I will admit that vettes are compromised cars.. sharing a lot of their interiors w/ camaros. They are more tools for speed than rolling pieces of art like ferrari's.. although i do think this car carries a lot of that retro-beaty.. it looks like something straight out of the fifties. NICE!! As for the price tag.. Aluminum is something like 4 times more expensive than steel.. so i can understand it.. so many cars these days are waaaay overpriced.

21. Supersonic, stick to Ferrari posts or something, don't try to compare apples to oranges with the M3 and the AIV Roadster. I'd love to buy both cars, but if I had to choose one it would be the Roadster b/c it's beautiful and it's different. I'm sure you're an expert on this car like you know the inner workings of every Ferrari. Yeah, right. Until you experience this car, don't pass judgement on it. In fact, why don't you come to Athens, GA where I go to college and we can go over to Braselton where the Panoz is built, and if I can play my cards right and if they still have one there, maybe we can test drive it. Then we can test drive an M3 at the BMW dealership here in Athens. Then tell me which is best.

22. thanx for the offer, but i already know which i'de rather have. AIV? panoz? or M3 Convertable.

23. If you want performance in a lightweight package thar COSTS LESS THAN $62,000, buy a Caterham Superlight R kit and couple it with a 202hp Ford Zetec engine and a close-ratio six-speed gearbox. That would probably cost $29,950.00 for the kit and $13,150.00 for the engine and transmission. So, overall the cost would be $43100.00.

That setup can get you a car with a power/weight ratio of 412hp/L and a sub-4sec 0-60.

Of course, one can opt for a higher output Zetec engine...

But AIV is alot more practical and less raw than the cateram. Plus I would go with a megablade cateram.

25. Caterham is not the maker of the Megablade. Westfield is.

Oh, and as for your preference towards the Caterham Fireblade, to tell you the truth, the Caterham Fireblade is the Caterham that gives the third most raw experience. Second goes to the Blackbird while first goes to the R500.

IMO, all Caterham Sevens look better than the Panoz AIV Roadster.

Finally, as for practicality, what matters is not, "I can't do it" it's "How I'll do it". (That goes for fitting luggage in a Caterham)
