No I didn't.
My experience about GM trannies (Buick LaCrosse, Chevy Malibu) tells me that they are slow and dim-witted slushboxes. I remember driving a '99 528i (an excellent car btw) and the tranny in that one was ok. Dunno who made it.
I don't know if GM makes anything as good as the ZF 8-speeder that's really fUcking good today.
I guess it sort of depends upon what you're looking for. GM's heavy-duty truck trannys are pretty good, but you wouldn't really want one in a 5-series.
GM's automatic transmissions have always been some of the best designed auto boxes around. Rolls Royce have always used GM automatic transmissions in their cars as well.
Not anymore they don't
No, but that's because they're riding ZF's dick now.
Which is a good thing because ZF tranny dick is better
It is pretty spectacular. Better hope it doesn't have some sort of long-term reliability fault because EVERYBODY is gonna be #$%#ed.
"Internet BRO SYNDROME"
Most of the people that comment on car forums, talk about huge ass horsepower, drifting like mad, or having a fast car.
Truth is, most of these people are under 25 years old and never have been in a 500+ HP car. Nor know anything about putting power down to the ground, or, well, anything really.
So when they tell you that it has to be standard, that is the same logic behind having your kids circumcised because you were. I dunno, it seems to be what my dad said.
I own several automatics, and a couple standards. I have a vehicle for each time of year and each purpose of driving.
Main advice: Have an automatic daily driver. Keep your sports car for weekends or special events. If you daily drive your toy, it will break and you will take the bus to work. Save up, get situated in life, then play.
Yes, according to me a car with manual transmission is more safe than a car with automatic transmission. I mean both have advantages and disadvantages.
Definitely Manual. Manuals may be a bit worse on gas, but who cares? its way more fun and its better for mods, and you can get faster shifts depending on the competing auto transmission
I guarantee you can't manually shift faster than any of the current dual clutch 'boxes, or even the 8-speed ZF that's going in everything under the sun these days.
I can shift from first to second gear in 0.014 seconds with my manual tranny car. <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/tongue.gif"></A>
I want proof in the form of a time-stamped video
Ask TSCM, I showed him how it's done.
you do shift quickly but I'm doubting the speed on this one
Ah man! I was counting on you to back me up.
