    I see what you are saying. Finding a definition for tuned is difficult. Is the SVT Focus tuned? Some would say yes and they would have a good point. Other's would say no and there would be a good reason for that too. Like almost everything else maybe it comes down to opinion. I'm not too mad at being called an idiot. Most of the fun I have on this site is watching people tear into each other. It makes me laugh , especially, when people say stupid stuff like

    1.All Japanese cars are shitty riceburners
    2.All American cars can't turn
    3.All European cars are superior to any other cars.

    Stupidity makes this site fun and I guess we must all contribute our fair share sometimes. BTW , I would actually prefer this Lotus hybrid because it delivers a driving experience few will EVER have in their lives.The Cobra delivers a much more common(though still exciting) driving experience.

    woo hoo, someone finally brought up power to weight ratio instead of horsepower per liter. power to weight is far more important then power per liter. all of the fast cars have low power to weight ratios, doesnt matter what their power per liter ratio is.

Comparing stock vs. tuned is never fair and invites ludicrious(sic) other scenarios.The Elise is a great car but it is not a muscle car. It was designed to be a pure sports car and it definitely succeeds in that capacity. However the Cobra R vs. Tuned Elise comparison is absurd. The Elise is great in its own respect and gains nothing from being compared with the Cobra R which is not a pure sports car. Look at its weight if you don't believe me. The car was meant only to best Camaro's and take a shot at the Corvette.

    Ok first off, if you had a brain, you would also notice that the Cobra is tuned also!!!! Moron, the Cobra R isn't a freaking stock Mustang. Good lord. And secondly, the Mustang Cobra R failed to beat the Z06 vette which it was designed to go against. I still can't get over that you didn't realize the Cobra R wasn't tuned, f*ck, what did you think it was, stock? Anything but, and worse, the Cobra R is a limited production automobile. THe comparison may have been ridiculous, but it proved a really good point. The "tuned" Elise, is BETTER than the best Ford can throw out. I do doubt however that "tuned" Elise would beat a new GT40. Yeah well anyway, I would take this Type 72 Elise over ANYTHING short of a quarter million dollar Italian work of art.<!-- Signature -->

    LOL.The Cobra R was stock. Ford produced 300 (I think)Cobra R's and a car is stock if it has not been modified after it left the factory like the Cobra R. So yes the Cobra R is stock. And the Elise is no longer a Lotus. It is a Lotus/Honda hybrid. It is a good one but to compare it to a stock Cobra R does invite silly repsones.Laugh Out Loud. Would you take someone seriously if they said they modded out their 85 Chevette and it was a better car than this? I would hope not.
    I am not saying the Lotus/Honda is not a better race car because it is.I just think the comparison is as silly as modding out the Chevette and claiming it is better.Thanks.

    Actually the Mustang isn't stock. Since it is MODIFIED by "SVT". Sorry, for calling you a moron, but you were wrong. The SVT COBRA R is just as much a "tuned" car as the Sun Elise. BUT, you did bring up a good point. The Elise is a "hybrid". A hybrid is different than tuned though. I totally agree that the Elise is the better race car. I applaud Ford for doing the Cobra R, although it did fail in it's mission, it is still an alright car, it would be better if it wasn't Ford. I think it would be advisable for Ford to go into a partnership so that Lotus can teach them some things about chassis tuning.<!-- Signature -->

    You are damn right. I've been following the discussions in this forum for quite a while and i'm pretty amused about certain people who believe themselves to be car experts. All they think is of importance is bhp and torque and if someone even has to say something about bhp/l he belives to be the car god. In other words: dumb power fetishists. Hello! A car just doesn't exist only of its engine. It's obvious that quite a lot of these experts don't even have a driver's licence.
    I own a Toyota MRS which is not quite in Lotus Elise territory, but it gets close i'd say ;-) It has only 140 hp but handles very well and has very responsive steering. So, you can be very fast. Can YOU?

    Word. Last months issue of Sport Compact Car pitted a Lotus Elise that was fitted with an Integra Type R engine against a Mustang Cobra R. The Elise spanked the Stang in the 1320 and on the track. The writers said if they had to pick one of the two on comfort it would be the Stang because it has a roof. It just goes to show that heavy V-8's with a lot of hp won't necessarily(sp?) defeat a well engineered automobile. I reccomend for everyone to pick up a copy of SCC and read the article(I'm assuming that people who post here can read). It is really good.<!-- Signature -->

    There is a version of this car that comes with 190BHP. But it is a track tool.

    If you believe the press the next gen Lotus is going to come as standard with 190 BHP toyota 1.8 VVT engine.<!-- Signature -->

    Ok im changing the discussion of who can kick whose ass (big words considering you will never see each other) and back to the elise and the cobra. The cobra r is stock because it was not tuned in the aftermarket--svt is an in house tuner--and its mission to beat the z06 is a little off because the orginal 3rd generation cobra r prototype came out in november of 1999 and the z06 in july of 2000. The z06 was to compete with the cobra and not the other way arround. And the comparasion was a little off seeing as how the elise is the best driver car in the world as compared with a mustang whose chassis dates back to 1979.<!-- Signature -->

    The SVT Cobra R is tuned because they took a STOCK Mustang and TUNED it. You yourself said "in house TUNER". All the M5 is, is a tuned 5 series. Anyway, I would still rather have the Elise whether it carried an Integra Type R engine in it (provided by Sun International)or if it was a Rover K Series engine. The only Ford I could love is the GT40, new and old. I really don't care if Ford can get 600 bhp out of the 4.6L engine and Chevy is still making do with 405 in the Z06, I'd rather have it, flat out.

    If the cobra r is not a stock car then where do you draw the line? The duratec taurus makes 200 horsepower to the vulcan taurus's 150, so is the duratec not stock then?<!-- Signature -->

    Nuf Said</b></blockquote><center><hr width="90%"></center><!-- END QUOTE -->check this out, all cars are tuned by the manufacturer before they hit the street, now if we were to talk about AMG and Benz, youd change your tune, maybe, maybe not, i didnt get what you meant by the 600bhp 4.6 and the 405hp 5.7, about the Ford GT40 will probably own every car's ass when that baby comes out, if it lives up to the hype of the orig., then the new 40 is going to be a killer car, if it could reach 220mph on Mulsanne(sp?) straight during 1960s, just think of what it is capable of with current technology<!-- Signature -->
