Speed is stupid.

  1. This is correct, but the instant you give it any stick, your instant mileage drops to 3. It's just a fact of life. So while you might get insane gas mileage on the freeway, you did have to accelerate from a stop more than a couple times to get to the freeway in the first place, so it's not like you're averaging 25mpg.

Unless you drive 3 city miles and 97 highway miles per day.

  2. Ah, I decided against it. I don't have room or time. I REALLY wanted it though.

It was beige, and it was just specified as 350 chev.

I would like to do it in the future though.. and it would be a series III for sure, because those are probably my pick of the lot.

Also, beige kind of sucks.. I'd prefer a dark red, dark green, white or black.

  3. I'm sure it's not averaging 25. If I had a LT1 in it some of those guys are pushing like 28+ Highway and ARE getting something like 22 or maybe a bit more city IIRC. With a carbed engine like mine it's like 18 or so on average. This is of course all mostly based off of what other guys with these engines in their Jags get. I don't actually pay attention to my mileage, but it's very consistent with the SBC swaps.

  4. Coolness. The Series IIIs are the best quality wise of the "real" XJs. You gotta remember that they'd been in production on that same basic platform since 67 so they had all the kinks worked out of them by then. Plus more modern conveniences and gadgets than the older ones. I don't like the SIII taillights as much as the SIs or SIIs, but the front grills are probably the best.

And yes beige does suck. British Racing Green is a good, classic color. White and dark red are cool... You probably already know I like them in black I think blacks the best color. They're kind of uncommon but the XJs look amazing in silver too, that's my second fav.

Good luck in tracking a good one down when you're ready for it. Shoot for a fuel injected one that's got NO problems. You can nail PERFECT(mechanically and paint/interior) ones down for 5K or less pretty much all day long. Pretty damn good value IMO.

  5. I don't buy good cars, haha. I buy pieces of shit and fix them.

My ultimate goal I guess would be to find a decent SIII, probably an XJ6 and just do my own conversion.. build my own 350.

  6. Well then Everyone you know pretty much sucks... I dont know who you are, or what makes you tick, but ill bet it sucks too. Your are the Anti-thesis of what this web site stands for and is about. A car is not super if its a #$%#ING V6 MUSTANG. You have prompted me to search ebay motors looking for a delorean with a flux compacitor capable of producing 21.1 gigawatts of electricity so i can enter the time gate and go back to a date before you were born and deliver a kick to your mothers stomach the would prevent her from ever poisoning the earth with a little shit like yourself.

    im done

  9. well duh this thread is stupid everyones wanting to go fast as opposed to saving the earths fuel. seriously no more fuels could spell the apocalypse. what am i jesus. no this thread was about saving some bucks for something better such as renting a ferrari for a day and getting my fill of speed. just kidding no apocalypse im sure well find a renewable fuel one day or start mining the suns energy or something

  10. I'd rather be driving an evo every day than driving a prius every day and then hiring a ferrari once a year for track weekends.

  11. i should of stated that everything i say is just my oppinion

  12. its funny because i just bought a car that only takes premium(SVT focus, i never owned a mustang)

That's cool... I wish I could do that My dad doesn't know jack shit about cars, so I've had no one to learn how to do anything too extensive from. One of these days I need to just buy a 500 dollar junker with a SBC in it and just start tearing it apart.

In that case still go with an LT1!!!! OR (even better) an LSx. The LS engines don't have any straightforward kits yet, but they've been done by some adventurous sorts. I suspect that a kit will come out sooner or later as 99 percent of the parts needed are out there to be had, it's just no one has come up with a proper list or package for them yet. But if you're handy enough with cars it wouldn't be too tough.

Site with a guy doing a well documented LS swap into one. He posts on www.jag-lovers.org where I also post with a lot of detailed stuff.

I'd take an old LT1 or something and build it up.

Most original owner Jags are very well maintained too I find - so it shouldn't be too hard to find a decent car to start with.

  18.
  19. Yup. They're expensive cars and if it's still the original owner they probably have money. People with money tend to take care of their cars because they can afford to. You can find awesome condition Jags with engine trouble, or tranny trouble for nothing. Like 1k or less a lot of the time in great shape.

  20. I don't like toniferrari.

  21. +1

  22. then im going to kill you before you perform a selfish act with no fear of hell

  23. I was hoping this would be about SPEED channel, because I agree, they are stupid.

    Also....haha, V6 Mustang
