Super Car Power/Weight Ratios

Discussion in 'Car Comparisons' started by rabbitl1, Sep 5, 2008.

  1. So I've decided to start putting together a list of the power/weight ratios of all of our favorite supercars. I think it's a pretty decent indicator of the general performance you can expect from a car. Obviously there are a million factors that can change things, but you'd generally like to a better power/weight ratio than your competition. I'm also going to add some race cars just for comparison.

Feel free to post more ratios that aren't on the list and I'll add them to the main list in this post.

  6. The same power, but different weights. Aren't you supposed to be the expert or something...

  7. Mosler MT900 Red Devil - 1.38 pounds per horsepower

  8. Why is this sticky???

  11. you tell me

  12. We should come up with some way to account for torque in this whole weight equation.

    Obviouslyit makes a difference.

So what would we call the new Torque/Horsepower unit, and would it be somehow calculates at a range of rpms? Or an average of a range?

Peak torque rpm is dependant on what?

  14. Torque at the wheels is entirely dependent on gear ratios, so a torque to weight ratio would only really be relevant to an engine that's not attached to anything, not an engine with a transmission in a car. Since horsepower is a figure calculated from a combination of torque and RPM, it remains constant regardless of gear ratio. (not taking into account drivetrain losses)

Is this some kind of troll post?

  16. There has been some neck to neck competition between the most reputed sports car makers of the world and what continues to impress me that some of them have focused on improving the overall efficiency of the car whereas on the other hand to my disappointment as well some manufacturers have failed to bring down the weight of the car. I specially point to ones like Rolls Royce having a huge weight and thus reduced efficiencies.
