If you're father doesn't like driving he shouldn't waste his money on a DSG - just get a regular old slushbox if it's offered.
He likes driving, he hates cars/picking cars/maintaning cars etc. I think the VW is the best bet for him. What are maintainence costs like compared to Volvo/BMW/Alfa?
Dunno about where you live, but in the U.S. BMW and Audi cover a lot (not all) of maitenance costs included in the price of the car (during the warranty period). VW doesn't come close in what it offers, the dealership would charge me $80 for a standard oil change on my Jetta 1.8T. My mom pays nothing on maitenance for 3 years or something with her 530xi.
