Tesla Model S rendered

  1. In February, we brought you an exclusive illustration of the 2012 Tesla Model S, based on the best information available at the time. Since then, CEO Elon Musk provided a more complete teaser of taillight during an interview with ABC News. As a result, our artist has created a whole new computer-generated illustration of the rear of the car, plus updated our side profile rendering. Stay tuned for the official unveiling of the car at the end of the month.

Pricing is expected to range from $57,400 to $67,400, though the car’s eligibility for a $7500 tax credit will reduce that figure significantly. The car is about the size of a BMW 550i or Mercedes-Benz E550, and will offer similar levels of performance and luxury. The California-based startup is hoping to begin production in 2011.

At a recent ‘town hall’ meeting for Tesla customers, CEO Elon Musk confirmed the car will have a 300-mile range based on the currently-available battery technology. Tesla reps we’ve talked to acknowledge better batteries might be on the market by the time the Model S rolls down the production line, but even a 300-mile range is pretty impressive in the EV world. Comparatively, the Tesla Roadster has a 244 mile range, as measured by the EPA.

In terms of performance, expect a zero to 60 mph time of around 5.6 seconds. Again, this should prove quite competitive in the midsize luxury sedan segment. Like the Roadster, the Model S will have a top speed of 120 mph.

  2. tesla is a joke
  3. this car was also designed by Henrik fisker, so it will likely resemble the Rapide a little bit. Tesla apparently sued Fisker for designing the Karma better than the Model S.

  4. hahahaha what a #$%#ing horseshit claim.

i hate bullshit like that. the guy sounds like a whiny little #%!@
  5. Its really a shame because a company like Tesla deserves a better CEO. They could be really awesome if it wasnt for the douchebaggery.
  7. The rear quarter view reminds me of a Accord Coupe.
  9. Fisker>Tesla.
  10. only because Fisker also made the Tramonta.
  11. Only because Fiskers actually work...
  13. we dont know if the Karma works yet.
  14. looks but gaylectric = not real car
  16. Henrik Fisker made a much beter job with the Arttega GT,
the rendering above look pretty much like Porsche Panamera meets BMW X6<A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/sad.gif"></A>
