The new Shelby CSX4000 can kill any Italian

Discussion in '1966 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C' started by DANVM, Nov 30, 2002.

  1. 488 cubes, 500horses, and a quarter mile in the low 12's or high 11's, can't remember. But 0-60's in 3.7

3.8, actually, assuming you're refferring to the motor trend article a month or two back. It's a beast of a car, but let's be realistic, it's not faster than an Enzo or the Zonda (if indeed it's Italian)

"it's not faster than an Enzo or the Zonda"

It's also a design that's 38 years older, and still offers world class performance in a car that's distinctively muscular and American.

    So, what's your point?

Hmm... Let's look back at the last two posts, shall we? He said "The new Shelby CSX4000 can kill any Italian", and I simply pointed out two Italian cars that are faster. Are you supporting his obviously erronous blanket statement.

The fact that there are faster cars doesn't take anything away from this car. Also, I don't quite see what's so distinctively American about it? The engine is all I can see, because the Cobra started out a as the chassis and body of an Ace Cobra. There are more all-American cars than that, like the Corvette.

Enzo, Zonda, F50, Edonis, GTO Superproduzione, GTO Norwood, Murcielago, Diablo. Italians are better than ANY american production car (which the two GTO's aren't, obviously). The only thing Americans are good at is going straight ahead. The only American car which can take a circuit without problems is a vette, but that one needs a restyling.

  6. Re: The new Shelby CSX4000 can kill any Italian

HAHAHAHA!!!! Better at what? Racing? Yes, absolutely. However- they are tempermentle beasts, there is no place to service them, and they are priced 4x the amount of a Vette or Viper. Both of which have shown themsleves capable race cars at Le Mans.

  7. Re: The new Shelby CSX4000 can kill any Italian

You're right, a Saleen S7 could never "take a circuit"...

  8. Re: The new Shelby CSX4000 can kill any Italian

The new Shelby CSX4000 isn't a Cobra though, is it? This is a Cobra thread. Keep to the point.

  9. Re: The new Shelby CSX4000 can kill any Italian

yeah, but so can the original. No car came close to touching its 0-60 time(which is really 4.2 seconds)for like 25 years.

  10. Re: The new Shelby CSX4000 can kill any Italian

what is it with people who don't like this car??????

Re: The new Shelby CSX4000 can kill any Italian

I don't know, because it's one of the greatest sports cars of all time. The trouble is that there's a lot of people who want to talk about it and don't let the fact that they know absolutely NOTHING about the Cobra stop them. I'm mainly thinking about the idiot on another thread who seems to think it's based on a Mustang front end, but there are others.

Just to sum up about the Cobra. The Mk 1 (260) and Mk 2 (289) Cobras were just an AC Ace with a Ford V8 engine fitted. The Mk 3 (427) was, again, an AC Ace but with the body slightly redesigned to take wider wheels and a bigger engine. All the cars were designed and built by AC Cars Ltd ( www.accars.co.uk) after Shelby approached them and suggested fitting a V8 to the Ace. All the design and building was carried out in the UK, so this is actually a British car and is properly called the AC Cobra. AC are still making Cobras. Various other companies, including Shelby, produce replicas of various quality but the only original Cobras were built by AC.

If anyone has an issue with this then sorry, but you're wrong.

There are a few of you that are relatively knowledgeable. The majority of you send replies when you should be reading. Kill any Italian? I won't dignify ignorance with a response. When Road & Track tested the 427/SC Cobra when it was new, 37 years ago, their equipment could not deliver an accurate 0-60 time. Their estimate was between 3.0 - 3.3 seconds. It ran the 1/4 mile in 10.80 seconds with Blue Dots on it!! Realize that 1100 Cobras were produced, but only 27 or 28 had actual 427 side oiler engines in them. I have driven many cool cars in my life, and ridden in even more. I got to drive a real 427 Cobra around the track, and I chose to bring it in after only one lap cuz I didn't want to wreck it. It's that demanding. The 427 Cobra is far and away the scariest handful ever intended for street use.The fenders rock up and down 2 inches at idle. Can a Ferrari 712 Can Am race car beat it? Since the 712 was designed to compete with 1500hp
Porsche 917s that weighed well under 2000lbs.,yeah. I think, yeah, there just may be an Italian car or two that can outperform a 1966 street car. But as far as legends go, this car is hard to beat.

there u go! "if its AMERICAN & it's an old design it must suck cuz fererri didnt design it!" thats what im hearing from all u anti-domestic ppl! Heres another example-- the new remake of this car- 427 phantom cobra: 725 horses from a 427, chrome everywhere, & a paint-job u could only dream about (it has a "gohst cobra" painted on the front fenders). Plus its a cobra, so u know its as light as a feather! check it out- http://fast-autos.net/shelby/shelbyphantomcobra.html

yes it is! its a remake... U WOULD KNOW THAT IF U ACTUALLY LOOKED IT UP!

  15. Re: The new Shelby CSX4000 can kill any Italian

w/ that ratio, it should b a lower 10 or upper 9 second car-- do u think it would go faster if it had a better transmission?

  16. Re:

To tell you the truth i dont think ANY car can really beat and Italian now...

  19. woot let's compare a heavily modified car to a bunch of supercars. What a fair fight! Seeing as how this is in the cobra forum, I'll go ahead and say that the Weineck Cobra trounces your viper venom because even though the venom may have a higher top speed, the cobra will easily take it in acceleration, and will most likely have its way with the venom on a track.
