The ONLY respectalbe Japanese car

Discussion in '1993 Mazda RX-7 JM1FD' started by SeansVette, Aug 10, 2002.

  1. Why doesn't Mazda still offer this in the US? I would like to have some REAL competition for the domestics. I'm an American car fan to the bone, but sorry nothing that's sold here stands a chance. It would be cool if there were some Japanese cars that could challenge the 03 Cobra, 02 Corvette Z06, 03 Dodge Viper, Ford Lightning, etc.. etc.. price vs performance.

I'm sure by bringing this up I'm going to ruffle a few feathers. But oh, well. I'll live. Let 'er rip. <!-- Signature -->

Japanese caars are made for all around performance. American cars are made for power and torque off the line. Don't get me wrong, I love Corvettes and Vipers, but Japanese cars seem to more finely tune their smaller engines to have maximum horsepower. I think that it is coming to a point where American cars are beginning to handle as well as they look.

Japanese cars like RX-7's and Skylines were not brought here for one thing it would cost too much to put in production into the US market

Finally! Someone other than me that understands!

I believe the reason Mazda dropped this wonderful car from their lineup is new emissions standards came in in '95-'96 as well as the early '90's drop in coupe sales.

I would love to drive off a cliff.

give it up for random post of the day

anyway, i think mazda got rid of the rx-7 because of the gentleman's agreement in japan ceasing late this year or next year.

if you look at it, most japanese companies are getting rid of their high-performance cars, with the exception of nissan and the gt-r (the r35 is rumoured to have a 3.5L V6 twin-turbo producing upwards of 450hp and 500nm torque)

toyota has axed the supra in favour of the rumoured v10 first japanese supercar, mitsubishi got rid of the 3000GT (or GTO for aus or japanese people) and mazda has given us the last rx-7, the spirit-r

so maybe it isnt all bad, maybe mazda is planning on replacing the rx-7 with a 500bhp rx-9 or something?

note: this rx-9 was an off the top of my head idea, i have read nothing to substantiate this in any way, just a possibility

  10. Re: Re:

what is the deal with the video of a j spec mr2 spanking an RX-7? is it really faster, cause i have a FD3s Rx-7 and i know that it will walk any MR2/MR2 turbo that crosses my path.

Eclipse dont know bout that to tell you the truth that car doesnt deserve to be in this category

  12. Re: The ONLY respectalbe Japanese car

Am I the only person who knows that Mazdas arent Japanese cars. They're owned by Ford, they're American.

  13. Re: The ONLY respectalbe Japanese car

First of all they got rid of Rx7 caus noone would buy it for 50,000$. Aldo the r35 is rumoured to use a v8 TT producing 400 and its body has the lowest drag coefficient of any car in production. I may be mistaken about the cylinders but Greddy 3.5 TT makes 350 horsepower surely a stock unit wouldnt run over 12 psi but who knows.

Toyota didnt axe the Supra in favour of another. Caus if you knew they are planning on returning the Supra for 2005 or not for a long time either wit a TT comemorating JGTC or V10 for their new F1 vehicle. BTW mazda is plannin a replacement for Rx-7 depending on the sucess of the z and the sti. To see if the market is open to this price range. Notice Wrx to Evo.

The replacement for Rx-7 would be Rx-7 wit a renisis TT producing between 320-330 hp.

    Peace No hate just love.
    Dont hate educate
