I'm aware that this may come as a news flash to BMW fans, and perhaps disappoint some, but today I had the chance to talk about the recent market direction of BMW with the design manager for the 1-Series. When I mentioned the advent, discussed in Autocar and several other magazines, of a 2-Series and 4-Series to the BMW lineup, he hadn't the slightest clue what I was talking about. He said that, although any plans for 2- and 3-door versions of the 1, as well as a coupé version of the new 3, are strictly company business, he can assure me that there will be nothing coming out of BMW studios anytime in the near future bearing a 2 or 4 series mark. His answer was simply that some people have spent far too much time messing around with Photoshop. The next M3 coupé will most likely remain an "M3." So, any artists' impressions of the 2 or 4 that you may have seen, are complete rubbish and belong in the same category as the "2005 S-Class" of yesteryear and the "Z5" concept.
Whoa, its Gimme! From England! Oh well, I'll guess this'll sort out the M3/4 thing. As you said. I didn't understand why they would want to confuse the public with more numbers.
