what kind of camera do you use
I'm guessing so that rocks dont fly up and chip/ crack the glass. That, or they removed the light fixture/ mechanism to save weight and covered the cap with a body panel coloured piece.
All of these were taken with a Canon 20D and 28-105mm f3.5-4.5 lens.
EDIT: And yes, I believe the lights are removed and those are simply caps.

I was guessing the latter, but I suppose the rock chip one makes alot of sense too.
Or to prevent glass chips on the track in case of an accident.
Those cars don't look TOO old! Maybe the caps were on the cars, cause they thought they didn't need headlights like in the movie "cars." the trend back then!
