    I AGRRE THAT THE LOTUS ARE THE LIGTHEST CARS AND HANDLY BUT I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD PUT A TURBO ON THEIR CAR AND ADD SOME MORE TOP SPEED TO BE PERFECT.

    Yeah, well I say we add some chips and forget about the elctronically limited top speed. But I don't see why they use a V6. I say they put in a turbo I-4 or an I-6. V6 sucks.

    A v6 can be light a compact, and cheap if they source it from another manufacturer. They are a small company so they dont have the money to develop thier own engine.

    This car was limited. It was ment to go head to head with the boxter, M3 roadster and the new f-type.

    Still I think you miss the point when you ask for more power. lotus is about getting the most speed out of the lightest chassis.

    I dunno about this Gem-Look at performance......shit a breyton beamer could eat it for lunch but yea I guess if U turbo it then U got a fair fight........but why not turbo it......I mean if this thing gets into a tussle with an american police cruiser on the highway its sunk.......sad but true

    I think the best engine to put in the M250 is a Porsche Turbo engine. There is well enough room to put it in the M250. Plus the turbo is 1250lbs heavier than the M250. The turbo already goes 200. u could even put a stage 4 turbo on the engine. That would probably be faster than that piece of shit callaway corvette.

    Ok.....lets get this point straight for once.
    Lotus is not about gaining a very high top speed like someone said earlier in this post, but they concentrate on handling(which they are the very best at) and as someone said they make light cars which don't need high powers or any crappy turbos.
    And to whoever said that the performance is crappy.......what?.....u are joking, u seem to be missing the point.....this car is not meant to be a rival the Lambo's and Ferrari's of this world but is a direct competitor to the Porsche Boxster and the upcoming Jag F-Type and the TVR Tamora.......so remember this car would waste most in it's class apart from the TVR in terms of performance.

    Nice car, shame it'll only ever remain a concept. Typical Lotus, poor management results in potential loss of money. Therefore the M250 project has been canned, so performance figures etc mean nothing.

    Also a shame for those who placed a deposit on one of these, as a number of them cant get their money back.<!-- Signature -->

    Where do you get your info, Veyronman? Why have they been through 2 design iterations of the F Type, finalised a mid-mounted layout (swapped design & engineering info from babl Aston) and identified powerplants and kerb weights. The F Type project is definitely going ahead - expect to see the cars available in late 2003/ early 2004, with a price tag of about £35,000

    Thank you for saying that. You never hear about lotuses expolits at the boneville salt flats so why are u talking about top speed? A lotus is not about "lets see how fast this car goes in a straight line" (although 5 sec run to 60 miles per hour aint bad) its about getting a experienced driver behind the wheel of a light car with a nice twisting mountain road ahead of him. That was the idea of track legend colin chapman when he started lotus and i would like to think that it is still arround today.<!-- Signature -->

    No, it's speed isn't electronically limited. But it's purpose is to be as much as possible fast in 0-60 race, not to win speed records

    Apparently, you guys aren't avid Lotus enthusiasts. The whole reason Lotus designed this car was to create a sports car with the lowest coefficient of drag of any production vehicle (too bad it was never produced).

    While it may only have 250 bhp, this is more than enough to make it haul. It weighs very very little, and the low Cd means it takes even less power to accelerate at high speeds.

    And what the hell are you talking about?! Lotus has PLENTY of money...they are one of the top engineering firms in the world. Also, a turbocharged engine is a stupid idea for this car. An N/A engine has the throttle response, light weight, and durability that this car deserves. You don't want a heavy, slow-revving, turbo-lagging engine on the track (where Lotus cars shine). At 140 mph, even in top gear, this car would pull like mad. Keep in mind it is European too - gotta have very low emissions.

    This car is one of Lotus' best...too bad they decided not to go ahead with it for now.

    If you think about it, a car so light with a top speed of over 170... the thing would be out of control, I mean. If you don't make some serious mods to the suspention and shocks, it would be flying off the road because it's so light. It would benifit from a turbo, but I think Lotus like to keep their cars naturally aspirated to keep from turbo lag and all of that other stuff.

    Actually in order to hit speed of 180 or so you need around 350 horses. Granted this car is light, i can see that it might be able to get to higher speeds with out needing so much horse power. For a 250 horse powerd car i am very very impressed. "THE MOST AMAZING THING IS THAT IT PRODUCES 250 HORSES AT 0RPM!!!!! WOW BABY IF MY CAR DID THAT SHIT I WOULD JIZZ MY PANTS DAILY" Yeah I realise that's a typo, so thanks to everybody in advance that wants to correct me but there isn't a need. Great car needs turbo

    I think this car is pretty perfect the way it is. I guess it would be cool if they took the supposed limiter off of it. But as it is, I think this would give the S2000 a great challenge in just about every category. This car is sweet!
