Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

  1. Does the Eclipse share the same engine as the FTO? The specs are quite similar except the eclipse has 3 more hp.<!-- Signature -->

nope, the eclipse has the old base 3000gt engine. But in the 3000gt it only came with like 164hp i think and wasn't offered when the 220hp dohc variant became standard. Besides, the eclipse v6 is sohc and 3.0 liters. The fto is 2.0 liters and dohc. This is the second smallest v6 i've ever seen.

And from all I haveseen and read it is a sweet little 6 cylinder unit, I have also seen 1.8l Mitsubishi units and they are a nice smooth engine but lack low down torque, this is the only thing that spoils their small capacity V6's (admittedly I have a similar pron in my 2.5l Ford, Just not as pronounced) But once "On Song" they are great units (same with my Ford again)

Yeah, those small v6's are pretty nice. They rev high and give a lot of top end power when tuned right. They remind me of rotary's in a way.

I must say I have not driven a rotary but if they have buckets of torque and power higher in the Rev rane and a lack low sown then Yup identical <IMG SRC="http://www.supercars.net/servlets/cMsg/html/emoticons/smile.gif">

Yes the FTO does use the Eclipse engine (the old four banger) ya know the 96 version 212hp from turbo I4

  7. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

yea the best rotory engine is the one from the jc cosmo

  8. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

Mr pink what are you talking about. And this doesnt use the old eclipse engine, even tho this does beat the hell out of the 3rd gen eclipse.

  9. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

I thought that the FTO had a 3 litre. I probably wrong though.<!-- Signature -->

  11. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

tiger005 go back to school... the FTO doesnt use a turbo-ed I4 it has a 2.0 liter DOHC mivec V6<!-- Signature -->

  12. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

What do you think of the GM 454

  13. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

No this uses a 2l V6 Mivec and the Eclipse GSX (i think that is the 4wd turbo version) has a 4g63 (Evos VR4s and outlanders/airtreks also have 4g63s). I think the engine code for FTOs is 6a12g

  14. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

    no 2 litre.

  15. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

the eclipse engine is a 3 litre single overhead cam while the FTO is a 2 litre double overhead cam

  16. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

    Precisely!

  17. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

    and FTO is FWD YUK

  18. Where Are All The Eclipse's On This Sight?

  19. Where Are All The Eclipses On This Sight?

There are no pics of the Eclipses and personally i think its the best car they make!

  20. Re: Where Are All The Eclipses On This Sight?

    Fast and The Furious Sux.

  21. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

They also offer a turbo version of this i believe. Around 270 somthing HP. The new eclipse doesn't use the old base engine from the 3000gt. The 3000gt Base was a 2v per cylinder SOHC and the SL used a DOHC 4 V per cylinder. The Eclipse GT uses a SOHC 4V per cylinder. This is a DOCH 2 liter 4V.

  22. Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

the 2nd generation galant VR4 uses a twin turbo version (non mivec) of the engine in the FTO

Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

    I do have a 3g eclipse ( http://r4racing.8k.com)
i have the i4 sohc one(but TURBO charged). the engine code for i4
    is 4g64, for the V6 is 6g72.

fto do not share the same engine with eclipse.
    no matter which G.

the 1g and 2g Eclipse do use the 4g63 engine, which is in
almost all Mitsu 4cyc. VR4 models (includes galant VR4, EVO,

Re: Uhhhhh........I think the Eclipse uses this engine.

There are two diferente eclipse engines.. the 2 Liter turbo or non turbo and the V6 3.0... This is a small V6, 2.0L 200hp, it is normally aspirated and uses variable valve timing like hondas VTEC but this is called MIVEC.
    http://www.j-garage.com/mitsubishi/FTO/5510.htm
Mitsu also makes a 1.6L DOHC MIVEC developing 175hp, the perfect road battle with the old Civic VTi or any honda with the 1.6 DOHC VTEC or B16A2 engine... but they never promoted it just like the FTO, it is called Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg
    take a look at it:
