Actually, Lamborghini's involvement in the engine design was pretty minimal. They couldn't live up to Dodge's requirement for reliability, so Dodge took that design (itself based on 2 Dodge Ram V8's mated together) and practically redid the whole thing. The strengthening ribs of the block and the red valve covers are left over from Lambo, however.

The most significant thing that Lambo did was to convert the engine from the LA Series Ram V8's steel block to aluminum. And they developed a fairly exotic coolant passage system no doubt based on something similar they were developing for their Formula One engines. This saved a lot of weight. But is probably one reason why a stock-blocked modded Viper won't see much more than 1200-1300 reliable horses. Some of the dimensions remain the same between the truck engine and the Viper engine, namely bore centers and deck height.
To say that the engine still wouldn't be as it is if lambo had not been involved is purely speculative of a condition that does not exist. We can't say either way. Obviously, even Lamborghini learned that to extract 100 hp/l from an engine this size is a fruitless pursuit that would have priced the Viper to extinction. Lambo's own Diablo wasn't putting out 100 hp/l, and that car not only had a smaller engine, it didn't have the same durability/warranty requirements the Viper had.

anythin more to say impreza guy?

  12. actually the viper engine was co-designed by either ferrari or lamborghini, i forget which, which makes it foreign...

and no i do not believe that it matters where a car comes from, just what the car can offer itself.

    LOL!

But, yes, the engine was co-designed by Lambo, but that's nothin' to frown upon. I'm almost exclusively mopar, but I must admit, Lamborghini is an excellent car company, so it's nothin' to be ashamed of. But now, Americans are MAJORLY improving upon the design, so American craftsmanship kicks @$$!

Dude, why don't you just give up, god d@mn, people are going to continue to argue with you till death, why don't you just get out and go to a forum that has cars you like. Sure, freedom of speech, but the only thing people are going to do is argue, you're not going to change anyone's mind, and what you're doing is pretty stupid, coming into a forum that has a car that you hate, and dissing on it? Yeah, way ta go genius.<!-- Signature -->
