  1. Will Spanish get me by or do I need Catalan?

  2. You'll be fine in Spanish, surely
Even in English, I reckon, quite an international place

  3. I was there with a friend who tried to use his spanish, and he could get his message across just fine but he couldn't understand spoken catalan well at all.

  4. No I understand that they are separate languages like Portuguese and Spanish but I was curious if I needed to know Catalan.

  5. well if you're just visiting as a tourist, you don't NEED to know any spanish. It's up to you how much you want to submerge into the culture/city or whatever.

I was there for a week and loved it, with out knowing much spanish at all, only basic shit.

If you want to have business interactions with locals or something, I assume you might need to know a bit of Catalan/Spanish

  6. Spanish or english is just fine

  7. I really need to take some Spanish lessons

  8. I went there without knowing either. Like moo said, it's a fun international city

  9. *puts on Freddie Mercury*
