If you were a real mopar expert you would know that plymouth's R/T stands for rapid transit, and dodge's stands for road and track.
2. Re: What does R/T stand for?

it stands for right turn
3. Re: What does R/T stand for?

was there an r/t package and/or a HEMI model in 1973? just wonderin cause my friend said they stopped in '72? also, i heard HEMI stands for Hemispherical combustion chambers. is this true?
4. Re: What does R/T stand for?

In gran turismo they say that R/T stands for Rapid Transit and i also read it in a mag cant remember which one though, like the Viper R/T 10 R/T stands for Rapid Transit which the Viper certainly is.

Re: What does R/T stand for?

Dodge "R/T" stands for Road and Track cuz u can drive and race it. Their "T/A" stands for Trans Am. The T/A was dropped in 71 (after only one year), as was the R/T convertible. The word "HEMI" is in fact short for Hemispherical, cuz all HEMI's had hemispherical combustion chambers (the secret of the HEMI as well as the CAMMER). And in 72 the R/T option was dropped to be replaced by a Rallye Edition (this is why most of you were confused about it). In 73, however, the Rallye Edition was droped too. 1974 was the last year for the Challenger itself.

6. Re: What does R/T stand for?

if it stands for racing transmission then why did it come with the same 4spd manual you could get in so many others or the auto trans (i wanna say it was the 727). if you don't know don't guess.
7. Re: What does R/T stand for?

ROAD and TRACK
8. Re: What does R/T stand for?

In a reply i posted to what does R/T stand for?I said i read that it stood for Rapid/Transit but after a bit of research on a MOPAR website about the Dodge Challenger and Plymouth 'Cuda' that R/T stands for Road/Track so Im with the guys who say that it stands for Road/Track

9. Re: What does R/T stand for?

Hey Buddy when would that car ever be race in a rally race. Its for sure road/track
10. Re: What does R/T stand for?

road and track fools. U can drive it on the street or the track. how many ppl responded to some guys lil Question!
11. Re: What does R/T stand for?

Alot of people. And its not how many people responded, its how many people are wrong thats disturbing.
12. Re: What does R/T stand for?

Yes HEMI does mean that. The combustion area in the head is shaped like half of a sphere. An engine like this is said to have "hemispherical heads." In a HEMI head, the spark plug is normally located at the top of the combustion chamber, and the valves open on opposite sides of the combustion chamber.
13. Re: What does R/T stand for?

so THATS how the HEMI's valve-train works. I was wonderin seeing as how itd be hard to fit valves in half a combustion chamber if you placed them conventionally. Think its possible to make a 4-valve HEMI?
14. Re: What does R/T stand for?

15. Re: What does R/T stand for?

they stoped after 1971. that was the last year
16. Re: What does R/T stand for?

for any of the mopar guys. i have heard that R/T stands for rapid transit
17. Re: What does R/T stand for?

Road/Track is the correct answer. What I wonter is what goes "SRT" stand for? Street/Race/Track?
18. Re: What does R/T stand for?

the rapid transit system regrouped all muscle cars of plymouth and the scat pack regouped all muscle cars of dodge. the r/t letters were introduced in 1965-1966 with the coronet r/t.

19. Hey wait a sec. I no this i swierd but.................WTF does MOPAR mean.Plzz some one answer.(nicely)
20. I think it must be Really Tedious
21. I remember when my uncle had his (before he sold it last year *sob*) in the awesome plum crazy, and he told me it stood for rapid transit? i have heard it stands for road and track aswell though. but rally and track?? come on. anyway, i have some pictures of it (a real showpiece) so if supercars.net wants them off me, then let me know? i don't know if there's a link to let them know or something
22. It stands for Road/Track as it was originally built for racing (It was the very first car to crack 200mph (320km/h) in NASCAR history) but to compete in NASCAR, Dodge had to sell at least 500 road versions of the Charger (which they did successfully selling over 20 000 Chargers) and because they kept some of the racing parts in the engine, it was called Road(because it was road legal)/Track(because it could still be used to race)

R/T is the performance moniker used on Dodge automobiles since the sixties (much like Chevrolet Super Sport). R/T stands for Road/Track (no "and"). R/T models come with R/T badging, better suspension, tires, brakes, and more power. Some models come with monotone paint and stripes, as well as aggressive body parts. The Chrysler SRT Division (Street and Racing Technology) has created Dodge vehicles that eclipse R/T performance, therefore the R/T designation doesn't carry the status it once did.
