what is a personal luxury car?

  1. I think that the term personal luxury car or personal car needs to be explained
It is a big coupe with a big engine, very luxury interior loaded with full options.
Here is the link with examples and definition of personal cars

Examples of personal luxury cars: the cadillac eldorado, the buick riviera, the imperial crown lebaron coupe, the lincoln continental markIII, the pontiac grand prix, the olds toronado, ford ltd coupe, mercury grand marquis brougham coupe, the chrysler 300, the chrysler new yorker coupe and at last but not least the chevrolet impala 2 door coupe.
some pics of some personal cars.
  2. All cars are personal, unless you share them with all your neighbors.
  3. They're just luxury cars/coupes, dammit. You are the ONLY person that I've seen talking about 'personal cars'. I think it is an error in your programming.
  4. hahaha, i bet that happens alot
  5. No not an error probably you don't have old car magazines or old ads,it was a term used by the big three in the 60-70's where they often refered as personal luxury cars the big luxury coupes that were offered for sale. The personal luxury cars market started already in 1963 with the apparition of the buick riviera.
  6. thank you for that info
  7. you are welcome barra
  8. Ford brought out the Thunderbird way before that, terming it a "Personal Car". It was built with exactly what you are talking about in mind.
  9. It's a large luxury coupe. Continentals, 8-series, Eldorado, etc.

"Personal car" is the stupidest thing I ever heard. If someone said it out loud to my face I'd deck them.

The problem is figureing where PLCs end and large 2-door luxury sedans start (e.g. the Eldorado is a PLC but the Coupe deVille not).
  10. 426 Hemistage 8 would kick your arse.
  11. The continental and the 8 series are not personal cars no and no because they are modern european cars.Failed.Personal luxury cars or personal cars are strictly OLD and AMERICAN luxury coupes built between 1963 till 1977 .So who is stupid there?
You showed your lack of american car culture by writing this.So when you can't back it up you better avoid to bable [email protected] and accuse people that they are wrong.
The personal luxury cars or personal cars are cars were produced in the early 60's till the mid 70's.Undertsood or not?
  12. that is true. i forget to mention the t bird which was selling better than its rwd rivals the buick riviera, the pontiac grand prix sj, the ford ltd, the mercury grand marquis, the chysler new yorker and the imperial crown le baron coupe.
  13. I meant the LINCOLN Continental, although the Bentley would also apply. And how is the 8-series any different in style or function from those old American cars other than being European? Ditto the XJS? Or the JC Cosmo? You're definition is restrictive to the point on meaninglessness: you've constructed a list not a definition.

If you're big-pimpin' in a luxury car built for 2+2 you're in a PLC IMHO.
  14. the Toronado is my personal fave in there.
  15. The lincoln continental markIII, markIV, markV were PERSONAL LUXURY coupes ever heard of these cars before ?The personal car market was strictly and only an american car luxury market. The xjs wasn't personal car because it didn't have the same size as the big american cars and it didn't have an engine of more than 428ci of displacement and more than 375hp stock. An 8 serie doesn't have a 500ci or a 455ci v8 carburated big block as far as i know right? So it is not a personal car.It is just a modern luxury coupe made in Germany.
I give you the definition of what is a personal car because you seem to have a lack of understanding of what i am talking about.
Personal car:Big American luxury coupe built between 1963-1977 loaded with full luxury options.Generally fitted with a big block over 400ci with over 350hp always with an automatic tranny.
    Hope that my definition helped.

  17. Your defintion is so convoluted. WFT happened in 1963 and 1977 to stop-start the PLC era? And I suppose if Lincoln built the Mark9 concept it wouldn't be a PLC because it doesn't have a carb? OK...
  18. My car is so inpersonal.
  19. you get a magistral hatsoff from me<A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/emoticons.html"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="http://speed.supercars.net/pitlane/emoticons/wink.gif"></A>and thanks for the link<A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/emoticons.html"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="http://speed.supercars.net/pitlane/emoticons/wink.gif"></A>
  20. why till 1977 because no more big block available and car were smaller in the mid eighties and engines began to be fuel injected and the early engines using fuel injection weren't so reliable. The eighties were nightmare years.American car Manufacturers discovered a new technology but wanted to adapt it too quickly but the result was taht the engine were not so reliable as before the cadillac 6litre v8 with injection was a nightmare.Barra's link specify the plc era stopped in 1985.Most of car collectors and a lot of collector car magazines will say the late seventies.Everyone has their opinions.
The mkIX isn't a personal car.The personal car market is dead in the late seventies mid eighties.
