  1. Wheels could fall off on 182,000 recalled Honda Civics

Honda Civics are generally respected as reliable transportation, and aren't supposed to be prone to things like, say, wheels falling off. But that's the reason Honda is recalling more than 182,000 of them made in 2006-2007.

Honda says the trouble comes from a leaky O-ring in the wheel speed sensor. Water could damage the wheel bearing, which could result in one of the four wheels falling off, "possibly resulting in a crash." Ya think?

Owners of the affected Civics can expect a note in the mail from Honda, offering to fix the problem and replace any damaged parts.

You can read the full recall notice from NHTSA.gov after the jump.

    Thanks for the tip, Herb!

[Source: The Detroit News]NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 07V399000

    Mfr's Report Date : AUG 30, 2007

    Component: WHEELS

Potential Number Of Units Affected : 182756

    Summary:
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HOUSING USES AN O-RING SEAL TO PREVENT LEAKAGE TO OR FROM THE WHEEL BEARING. IF ASSEMBLED IMPROPERLY, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAL PROPERLY ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE WHEEL BEARING AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARING, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WHERE USE OF ROAD SALT IS PREVALENT. IF THE DRIVER CONTINUES TO DRIVE WITH THIS CONDITION IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE WHEEL BEARING TO BECOME LOOSE, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE BEARING TO FAIL.

    Consequence:
THIS COULD CAUSE A WHEEL TO FALL OFF OF THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.

    Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR ABS SENSORS AND WHEEL BEARINGS FOR DAMAGED PARTS AND REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT SEPTEMBER 17, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

    Notes:
HONDA RECALL NO. Q56. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION¿S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

  2. This happened wtih the Civic a few years ago too

  3. Sucks for those that haven't read its cause. They're probably still believing they fell off because VTEC kicked in.

  4. My brother has an 07 EX, I love to rag on him about it. Just the other day he sent me an email on about how much more reliable Honda and Toyota are than any other brand in the common market. Then I reminded him of the recall with the windows falling off at highway speeds on his 07 Civic.

Windows fall off, wheels fall off, next thing to occur will be the body panels melting from the heat of re-entry after VTEC kicks in.

  5. Hahaha!! What a shitty car! I'm glad I don't work at a Honda dealership anymore.

  7. No, dammit!!<A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/angry.gif"></A>

When my sister bought a 2006 Civic, I told her: "Are you sure you want a Civic? It's not that great of a car" And she still bought one. At least, it's a lease, and when it's over, I will tell her to give the keys back and never buy/lease a Honda again.

  8. post sis pics <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/angry.gif"></A>

  9. You first.

  10. I have an '03 civic and it's still *perfect*. Honda 4-eva.

  11. I asked first <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/angry.gif"></A>

  12. I have seniority. So you first.

  13. Fck Honda. None of their cars ever appealed to me in the slightest except the S2000 and NSX, both of which are no longer very impressive compared to the competition.

  14. American built cars are rubbish.

  15. AAAHAHAHAHA. If the body panels did fall off, the Honda fanboy would be a real smart ass about it too YO....

  16. How about the corvette whose roof can come off from the car?

  17. Agree, it is still bad. But in the end, it was due to shitty glue that they were using. This problem is actually a "moving part". And come on, its a wheel bearing, they should have been able to engineer a proper bearing for a car sold to the masses.

  18.
  19. All of my girl friends love Honda's along with must other chicks.Im probably the only chick that hates them.

  20. D-bag...it is a design flaw, not a production flaw.

  21. Another one of these threads <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/tongue.gif"></A>
If a wheel bearing is failing, you will be able to hear it and get it serviced.
Unless you're a typical Civic owner and your car is blasting down the highway with it's Volume set to fully sik and it's subs set to hektik.

  22. I hate it when I have a leaky O-ring.

  23. u need moar fiber in ur diet.

  24. The wheels on the civic go round and ....

  25. put ur penis in my o ring
