The mk6 ford escort looked nothing like the MK1, but they still had the same name. I owned a mini cabriolet up till the end of last year and used to attend mini meets. Most of the appeal of them for me was buying cheap parts and getting ideas from other cars. If I bought a new mini, I don't think I would go to the shows. Not until lots of independant companies get going on aftermarket parts anyway. The official BMW ones are far too expensive (£800 for a set of four spotlights! - I paid £80 for my old mini). Have you seen inside the new mini? It is still very small although it looks bigger from the outside. The main thing that has gone up is its weight. How can such a small car weigh so much?

If it had been smaller they would have complained that cars this day and age should'nt be that small. People always find things to ***** about. (well was orginally my sisters) I drive it a heck more than my 944! as for the new mini, its pretty cool. they keep the same name, more people buy
Re: Why is it called NEW mini, if it isn't a mini? i think the name is good. plus building a small car that americans want to buy as well as europeans is tough. americans want suvs and the euro market for small cars is super competitive. i think bmw did a good job. i have however read on a couple of occasions that this model won't last very long before they replace it because the margins will be so low. bmw will be lucky if they break even.

Whatever floats your boat I guess... This new Mini is badass. Granted, it might not be quite as "mini" as the previous ones. Nor is it as true to the spirit of them either. This does a better job of following in its namesake's footsteps than the beetle does.... This car is sweet, I dont think it was meant to be a Mini clone, and thats a good thing too... If it was, I know I wouldnt buy it... I like having good chances of surviving an accident with a Schwinn...

W/ new lightweight body frames, you'd think it'd weigh LESS than the original. This thing weighs more than a Civic! WTF has BMW been feeding this thing? Pure fat? I agree with things said here and alot of people seem to disagree with the name, all I can say is would you want Rover to continue to build the car or BMW, I get my Mini soon and the quality, Price and packaging is far superiour to anything else on the market (Clio, 206 etc) Maybe this might prove to other manufacturers to stop ripping everone off with half decent cars.

Re: Why is it called NEW mini, if it isn't a mini? I like it. Much better that the regular mini. The s surely adds a lot more punch. It would be awesome if BMW added the kidney grill to this. Its a great car, looks better than the beetle. It weighs a lot though, for such a small car.

If it was any lower, then might as well NOT have wheels. You don't need to mess with every damned car that comes out, ya know. And I don't think they can fit a larger engine in it.
