what the hell are you guys talkin about?

Think of the population of all these countries, many times that of Australia - therefore less of a market for such cars. Australian car manufacturers are basically Ford and Holden (Others do make cars here, but are obviously owned overseas). Now, remember that a Commodore (the base for most HSVs) are made in bulk, and are basically a family car. The Holden Monaro, however is a built to a higher standard and the HSV versions (GTO & GTS) are said to be a worthy match for any Japanese or European car - in both quality and performance.

If one considers comparable build quality as well as equally nice styling both on the interior and exterior. Now consider the price that you will pay; I'll use Australian Dollars for this. I'm comparing the HSV with a BMW M3, Subaru WRX, and a Mitsubishi Evo 6 because thats is what most of the "experts" seem to think its rival is.

==Price==
HSV Coupe GTS: $100 000 or so.
BMW M3: $136 500
Subaru WRX: $43 800
Mistubishi Evo 6: $80 000

As far as performance goes, they're all roughly in the same class. Each car has been engineered by different people and will have its own strengths and weaknesses.

I admit that I havent driven in any of them yet, but just listen (read i mean!). Anyway, from what I've heard, the WRX and Evo are very nice, fast cars that go really well and turn like they're glued to the road . Now that IS cool . The M3 also has awesome handling as well as being quite luxurious. Now, the Coupe is reportedly good enough to match the build quality of an M3 - but for $40 000 less. Now think, for that much you could twin turbo that 5.0 V8 and make any adjustments to the interior you wanted . The only thing is that you wont have a BMW badge and people wont look at you on the street like you're a snob :(.

Heres a good test:

Pick one of the above listed cars.

Lets say you're racing through the city streets or winding country roads in your dream beast. Suddenly, from nowhere a big truck/train/elephant appears from nowhere - heading straight for you!

If you chose the WRX or EVO you'd probably be dead by now :(.
The M3 is a slightly bigger car with better safety features as well as better safety built into the design - you would have a reasonably good chance of survival. In the Coupe GTS (the biggest, fattest beast of them all) you would most probably (apart from a complete head-on crash straight into the truck/train/elephant) you would most probably survive with minor/major injuries that you will be able to recover from. The sheer size of the car makes it safer than the WRX or Evo as well as the comfort level.

In Australia, we enjoy riding in larger cars, mainly because they are BIGGER . This allows a greater possible level of long term comfort than any small or meduim sized car will ever be able to offer. The fact that a large sedan can produce a driving experience that is superior to the deluge of small sports coupes that are on the market is amazing in my opinion. Remember, this is merely what I think and you may/may not agree with me. But for its purpose, the commodore/coupe is an exceptional car.

Thats enough for now. Just think before you criticise a big car or a V8 simply for being what it is.

P.S. reply and retort if you want

Accept the fact that Jap cars are shit. You need stupid wings to make them look good (Mitsi Evo, Subaru WRX, Nissan GTR etc) and best of all, they require turbos to make power, as Jap car lovers don't have the brains to get decent naturally asspirated power.

5. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

Jap cars are bad???? How come they keep winning world class awards?? Are there any holdens out there??? hehehehhehe of course not...Now let me see about you saying japs can't build good N/A engines...ever heard of that small 4.3L V8 HSV killer engine. Regarded as one of the strongest and most advanced engines in the world...even better than the AMG 5.5. BYE

6. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

Anyone here heard of concept car of 2001 Hsv Coupe V8 Digital?
I work at Hsv and believe me, with the the Hsv Coupe V8 Digital coming out in 2004, with a price tag of Au$210,000 but tested to be Au$245,970 and technology coming from Mclaren, well I Think this car alone will make the aussie dollar rise above the American dollar again since its being sold in over 110 countries.

Things the car has:
* Electric glass tinting sunroof
* 490 Kw of power
* 7.6L V8
* Good 'ol twin exhausts
* DVD player/Telivision/Sattelite navigation/console input
* Leather colour coded seats
* Available Convertible T-Bar Roof
* 3 Disc Cd Player
* Made to order/Hand Built(in other words, price goes up
when you buy it)

By the way The Highest class Tickford is about 3 classes behind the V8 Digital.
(I'm not aloud to show a picture otherwise I'd be up for milions)

There is no replacement for car culture

we have it
The japanese dont
all they do is steal tech and market it as their own

Variable valve timing
Boxer engines
4wd

all invented in Europe or America

8. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

u don't have engines,
u use other engines from other makes and market them as ur own

rodeo uses toyota engines
hrt 427 uses c5r corvette engine
10 sec 6 pots r nissan engines

9. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

Holden used to with the V8, and it was 10 times the V8 than that windsor when it was out...

10. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

Why did we stop getting the Cleveland? Wsan't it easier to get power out of it compared to the Windsor?

12. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

exactly

13. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

they already got that fuel guzzling 7litre one with the corvette engine. anyways that car u just mentioned will be too heavy too handle good or go fast.

14. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

get #$%#ed, wings provide downforce and they don't need wings and spoilers to look good. holden/hsv engineers can't make cars for shit. only downforce they know is their #$%#ing fat 1800kg arse. btw, holden/hsv all look shit with or without spoilers.

15. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

Dont you mean Ford/FPV engineers? They seem to be making all that 1800kg shit at the moment.

16. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

like the xr6 turbo? doesn't that weight sumthing in the midst of 1800kg? that very heavy for a 6 pot

17. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

1710 for XR6T and 1795 for XR8 I believe.

18. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

i heard its being harder to mod a newer car these days as the manufacturers do things things which makes it next to impossible to build one up. the new xr6 turbos have to be taken back to the dealership so they can change a couple of things if u wnat u put a system in it.

19. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

It IS harder to mod your own car nowadays, but that mostly comes down to the complicated electronics. The reason why people would be getting their cars modded by Ford would probably be to keep their warrant.y

20. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

Yeah thats right...but I thought that car companies generally don't modify the cars?

Thats what I thought, but I was only commenting on the other bloke's post.

24. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

a 90 grand GTS coupe is a rather unfair comparison for the lil WRX, good though it is.

try the Nissan R34 GTR, you can pick one up for about $90 -$100 grand, and dead stock, they do 4.6 to 100km/h, and 12.8 quarters

upping the power is as simple as winding the boost solenoid up a bit, a 30 sec job.

25. Re: Yank tank with a lion logo on it...

Need I remind you that the Holden VL Turbo engine was built by Nissan. what was that, a japaneese company. Now who's stealing other technology and marketing it as their own. Oh and another thing, the Holden engine was also designed in America and then put into holdens.
