1952 Siata 400L

Siata, standing for Societa Italiana Auto Transformazione Accesori, started manufacturing high-performance accessories for cars such as Fiats. The company was started in 1926 by Giorgio Ambrosi in a factory that was conveniently just minutes away from Fiat's. Main products included intake manifolds, aluminum heads, OHV conversions and pre-war shock absorbers.

In 1932 Siata started manufacturing their own cars with the introduction of the Fiat 500 based Siata Amica. In total Siata would move forward to build almost 13 000 cars under their own name.

The 400L

Serving as a prototype to the popular 208S series, the 400L used the Fiat 8V's power plant. This car would tour various auto shows until it was displayed at the New York Auto Show which was the car's intended market. A unique feature of the car was its independent suspension which gave it good handling characteristics.

The 400L motivated the production of the 208S series of which 33 cars were produced. Highlights from the 208s racing career came at the 12 hours of Sebring and the Carrera Panamerica.

Christies Auction

During their sale of exceptional motorcars at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center, Chrisites auctioned chassis BS502, the only 400L. Being quite unique, the car changed hands for 337,500.00 U.S. dollars
