Today we have nearly completed our coverage of SEMA's manufacturer displays. We highlight Lexus which only brought along 3 cars, but each was special and worth further investigation.
Naturally, the big three had the largest investment in SEMA: Ford dominated the front parking lot with motorsports runs. A real highlight was their Twin Turbo Cobra Jet which will start a new era of Ford Racing. There was also a new Holman & Moody Mustang!
GM took a similar approach with over 30 new cars on display and a huge emphasis on performance parts. Many of GM show cars were entry level, but we love the idea of a COPO Camaro Convertible. They also extended the convertible theme to a 427 Corvette.
Chrysler leaned heavily on Mopar for special editions and performance parts. Their centerpiece was a bright yellow Mopar Viper flanked by a group of Fiat-Abaths and Dodge Darts.
Hyundai's ever increasing presence at SEMA was also the most organized. Their press material and cars didn't seem rushed and they really nailed the SEMA show car concept. Within the next few days we hope to have the rest of SEMA online including almost every Scion FRS we ran into.
Every year the Wheels & Tires display in the Lower South Hall of SEMA is a mandatory stop for all the premium companies that typically display luxury and super cars.
This year the big ticket is a MP4-12C McLaren which many companies have fitted with custom wheels.
As in years previous, Giovanna Wheels stole the show with their expensive display. Many of their top cars featured unusual color schemes and GFG wheels.
Our gallery page has some of the many highlights from the Wheels & Tires display. We hope to add to this collection in the coming days.
This morning both Chevrolet and Ford released new versions of their drag cars at SEMA.
Ford unveiled the Cobra Jet Twin-Turbo Concept which signals a new twin turbo-era for Ford Performance. It was painted in the new global Ford Racing Livery which will be on all of Ford's racing cars next year.
GM used SEMA to feature a convertible version of their COPO Camaro. Only two of these cabriolets were made at the end of the 2012 COPO Camaro production.
With The SEMA Show opening its doors tomorrow, we can begin with the areas surrounding the Las Vegas Convention Center that are setup in advance.
Some of the best displays outside typically include the Dub Live Show, Galpin Auto Sports, Ford Racing and Meguiars. The access rows are also filled with independent cars to give everyone a fair chance at becoming part of the show.
Today we have 150 images from outside the show that will be augmented by all the best from inside the halls later in the week.
With SEMA just days away, many manufacturers are putting out their last minute press releases. The most recent of these is Scion who will feature this FRS-GT as part of their $15,000 Tuner Challenge.
Naturally Ford, GM & Mopar will have a huge presence at the show. From the big guys we are looking forward to the Ring Brothers Mustang GT Coupe, Dodge SRT Viper “Moparized” and the 2013 Tanner Foust Racing Focus ST.
On the import tuner side we have the Lexus LS F Sport by Five Axis, 2013 TRD Camry “Rowdy” and the 2013 Toyota Avalon TRD Edition.
As most SEMA preparations tend to be last minute, we know there will be many surprises on the show floor.
Today we take a look at this fabulous Maserati which will be offered by Gooding & Company for their upcoming Scottsdale sale in 2013.
Not seen on the show circuit in a long time, this car is the sole 150GT prototype that was made from racing parts by Maserati in 1957.
Gooding & Company hope to fetch upwards of $3,000,000 USD for the car. Probably the closest comparable model is the Maserati 200S.
A nice companion to the 150GT could be the new 2012 Maserati GranCabrio MC in a matching color.
Today we are launching our new responsive image layout that will deliver images up to 4096 pixels wide to your browser. This means all images will be selected by our server to realize the maximum potential of your screen.
To roll out the new service, we have chosen the 1986 Porsche 961 as our initial example. Porsche has kindly given us exclusive access to their archives and some of the best 961 images extant.
Please let us know how this new system works for you. You can comment about the 961's feature on our new Facebook page. Otherwise just contact us directly.
Yesterday Lexus unveiled the LF-LC Blue at the Sydney Motor Show in Australia. It's the same color of the opal stone found in Australia's mines.
We also have a unique Maserati GranTurismo MC GT3 which was developed by the Swiss Team for the International GT Open. Having already started its career, this will likely be a prominant fixture in the 2013 season.
Besides their recent WEC victories, Toyota Motorsport GmbH have also set the fastest lap around the Nürburgring for an EV vehicle. They did it with their TMG EV P002 which is built as an example of the firm's capabilities with electric engines.
We finish with Hyundai's centerpeice SEMA showcar, the Velocity concept which is a race-race version of the small sports coupe. Earlier they also unveiled the Cosworth Genesis Racing Series and ARK Performance Genesis Coupe R-Spec for SEMA.
Today we have details and images of Lamborghini's outrageous new Super Trofeo. It's probably the best use of the Gallardo's updated bodywork which has been highly criticized on the production version.
The new racecar will be eligible in Lamborghini's one-make Super Trofeo Championship which will be five years old in 2013. The series has recently expanded to Asia with six races that make up the Asian Super Trofeo.
We also have new images of the updated 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder with its revised front and rear bumpers.
This morning Chrysler released several of their new show cars in Centerline, Michigan on a live webcast. Absent was a new Dodge Viper with Mopar accessories including a new hood and interior bits.
They have also released the Dodge Charger Juiced which is fitted with a Viper V10 crate engine and its 6-speed manual. It also has a new hood, 20-inch lightweight wheels, a front splitter and new interior upholstery.
We finish with the Dodge Dart Carbon Fire which has a Mopar Carbon Hood, SRT Cherokee lights, an eliminated cross-hair grill and lightweight 19-inch wheels.
Today Brabus released two new models on the Mercedes-Benz Shooting Brake and SL 500 platforms. As usual the demonstration cars are the highest specification available.
We start with the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake which has a new body kit and Monoblock R wheels. Naturally, all the cosmetic upgrades are available for the entire line right down to the CLS 250.
Along with the wagon, Brabus have their first package for the new SL series. For the SL 500 they have specifically developed the 520 PowerXtra CGI power kit which adds 85 horsepower for a total of 512 bhp.
Just recently the Uniques Special Ones event took place in Italy as run by the MAC Group which are responsible for the last editions of the Mille Miglia. This event focuses on one-of cars limited to around 80 total entrants.
This year was notable for several specific cars including the restoration debut of the 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO ’64 chassis 4675GT from Ferrari Classiche. Zagato also took the opportunity to reveal their recreation of the sole Porsche 550 Zagato which was lost to a power pole in period.
Bertone was celebrated with several key cars including the Bertone Nuccio with Lilli Bertone's company.
Our gallery of the event features many of the unique cars present and the winning Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS from Corrado Lopresto.
Today AMG is launching a special version of the SLS GT3 racecar known as the “45th Anniversary”.
This limited edition model is very similar to the highly successful cars which have raced on the GT3 circuits. Specific to the “45th Anniversary” are a passenger side seat and Designo Magno Graphite matte paint.
Only five examples of the gullwing racers will be sold for €446,250.
Today we have new details on Beglium's newest supercar by Marc VDS Adventures called the VDS GT 001.
For a long time Marc VDS were racing their own version of a Mustang in the FIA GT3 before moving onto the BMW Z4 GT3.
Now, Marc VDS are preparing a race version of their new car of the upcoming 24 Hours of Dubai. Called the VDS GT 001-R, the new car is influenced by the Mustangs raced by the team's founder Raphaël van der Straten.
With the revival of the ATS brand this year comes the 2013 ATS 2500 GT and the 2012 ATS Sport 1000 which was launched earlier today on the company's facebook page.
We are most excited for the 2500 GT, a modern sports car modeled after the 1963 ATS 2500 GT. The original which was designed by a team of disgruntled Ferrari personnel who left the company during the infamous palace revolt and went on to form their own comapny.
The new Sport 1000 is basically the Italian version of a Radical SR3 that will go on sale for as little as €25,000.
Earlier in September the record for the largest Ferrari parade was broken at Silverstone by having 964 Ferraris on track.
Also during the weekend they held the Ferrari Challenge and Corse Clienti including the specular XX program with eight 599XX Evoluziones.
Our gallery by Michael Van De Velde features all the XX cars plus some of the cars in the 458 Challenge.
