Based on the Fiat 1400, the Daina or Gran Sport is a carefully crafted special. It was the largest of the models offered by Siata and featured simple aluminum bodywork by Stabilimenti Farina.
At their Turin facility, Siata beefed up the Fiat 140 with extra cross members and reduced the drive shaft length. They also retained the standard Fiat suspension setup with double wishbones up front.
In this chassis was fitted with a Fiat 1400cc engine that had a unique over-head valve arrangement that was unique to Siata. Also fitted was Weber Carburetors that raised the stock power from 60 to 72 bhp. This was attached to the stock 4-speed manual or a custom Siata 5-speed box.
Later, this model was replaced by cars fitted with the Fiat ‘Ottu Vu’ V8 engine.
With just one owner from new, this example benefits from proper maintenance and recent restoration. It retains the original 1,817 cc engine and is truly resplendent in its two-tone exterior finish, complemented by wire-spoke wheels, a restored interior with square-weave carpeting and features including a racing-style quick-release petrol-filler cap, full instrumentation and a Pianola solid-state AM radio. Listed in the Italian Car Registry, complete with a factory colour brochure and nicely presented throughout, this Siata Daina Coupé is simply a wonderful example, with its competition-bred chassis and mechanicals, and striking Bertone bodywork.
This beautifully preserved, matching numbers 1400cc Grand Sport Spider was imported from the USA in 1988 by its current owner, and has been maintained by Visauto ever since. The car was repainted in the same year, however other than this only routine maintenance has been carried out as required, maintaining its unquestioned originality.
The car has completed trouble-free historic Mille Miglias in 1991 and 1992, driven by its current owner. This beautiful Italian Barchetta is a guaranteed entry ticket to some of today’s greatest historic festivals without costing a fortune either to purchase or to maintain. Highly recommended
