A 900+ HP Mustang That’s Electric

The Electric Muscle Car Is Here

There comes a time when something you think you knew intimately surprises you. We thought we knew what the Mustang was all aboutโ€”V8 powerโ€”but it seems the Stang can be an electric powerhouse, too. At SEMA, Ford and Webasto showcased a bonkers Mustang with a 800-volt Webasto battery system. The car is called the Lithium Mustang. That system was connected to a dual-core electric motor and dual power inverters. The power? Over 1,000 lb-ft of torque and over 900 hp.

There are no official times for this car for 0-60 mph or for a quarter-mile, but a less-powerful similarly equipped Camaro a while back laid down a 9-second quarter-mile, so you can bet this car would be even quicker. Good electrified God that’s fast. The Lithium Mustang is a testing and proving ground for Ford. The automaker is really betting a lot on electrification and investing billions of dollars. According to Autoblog, $11.5 billion.

โ€œFord has made no secret of the fact that we are electrifying our most popular nameplates,โ€ said Hau Thai-Tang, Fordโ€™s chief of product development. โ€œThis one-off Mustang prototype is a great opportunity for us, together with Webasto, to showcase to our customers what a new electrified powertrains can do for performance in a car they already know and love.โ€

It will be interesting if some form of this car will make it to production. We would imagine Ford would put out an electric Mustang at some point in the future.
