Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este (2012) – Alfa Claims Top Prize

On May 23-24, on the banks of Lake Como, a select group of the worldโ€™s finest automobiles were displayed on the grounds of the picturesque Villa Dโ€™Este hotel.

While prizes are given out in a number of categories, the highly prestigious Coppa dโ€™Oro award (the eventโ€™s Best of Show) was awarded to the 1933 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS with body by Figoni, owned by David Cohen (pictured above).

Cohen commented, โ€œThis is an amazing honor. I used to see this car every day as a kid, and to win this honor is amazing.โ€ Cohen went on to recall as a boy in South Africa, he used to frequently see the Alfa while riding his bicycle! Cohenโ€™s Alfa also won the judgeโ€™s choice award and the peopleโ€™s choice award the following day at the public showing at Villa Erba.

In total, 52 cars were selected to compete in 9 classes. For more from the Villa Dโ€™Este, see our Photo Gallery.
