Bertil Sollenskog, a popular and successful engine builder who produced winning engines for Super Vee, Formula Atlantic, Formula Three and the Oldsmobile pro Series, has died at the age of 77. Having recently returned from a trip to Sweden, Sollenskog was found floating face down in the pool of his suburban Chicago home by his wife, Pat. A subsequent autopsy listed the cause of death as drowning.
Drivers such as Ludwig Heimrath Jr., Peter Moodie and Bob Cicconi won races powered by Bertil’s engines. In addition to those engine-building successes, Sollenskog also imported British-built Anson Super Vee cars to the USA in the ’80s, teaming with Irish racer Eddie Jones first to drive the Ansons and later to build Shannon Super Vee and Oldsmobile Pro Series chassis.
