These days every modern 911 road car is turbocharged, but that wasnโt the case in the โ70s.
Porsche was exploring the use of turbo technology with their racecars in the late โ60s and by โ72 they were developing a turbocharged 911. Originally, they were doing this to comply with homologation regulations similar to the โ73 RS. The FIA announced that Group 4 and 5 cars had to be based on production cars available to the general public. For โ76, the rules got even tighter, with the manufacturer having to build 400 cars within a 24-month period.
