VIDEO: Testing Ferrari’s New 1,036 HP Plug-In Hybrid Monster

Driving SF90’s successor on track and road

CAR magazine’s James Dennison puts Ferrari’s new 849 Testarossa through its paces, positioning it as the SF90’s successor and a more usable alternative to the ultra-rare F80. Priced around $500,000, the plug-in hybrid pairs a twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors for 1,036 hp, delivering blistering acceleration with a 0–62 mph time of 2.3 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.

On track, updated suspension tuning, improved braking tech, and Ferrari’s advanced vehicle software make the car feel sharper, more cohesive, and more engaging than its predecessor. Enhanced aerodynamics boost downforce while improving cooling and stability.

On the road, the 849 proves surprisingly comfortable and refined, with a redesigned cabin featuring real buttons and better ergonomics. While steering feel and engine sound aren’t perfect, the ride quality and usability impress for such an extreme machine.
