VIDEO: Top Gear Explores the Denza Z and Z9 GT Ahead of 2026 UK Launch

Denza targets Europe's performance elite with Z sports car and Z9 GT ahead of 2026 UK launch

Denza, BYD’s premium technology-focused brand, is preparing to enter the UK market in 2026 with two ambitious electric models aimed squarely at Europe’s established performance segment. Featured by Top Gear, the Denza Z sports car and Z9 GT shooting brake showcase the company’s latest advances in electrification, chassis engineering, and ultra-fast charging, positioning them as serious rivals to models such as the Porsche 911 Turbo, Porsche Taycan, and Aston Martin Vantage.

Built on BYD’s dedicated e3 platform, the Denza Z emphasizes performance without sacrificing everyday usability. Available as a coupe, convertible, and track-oriented variant, the flagship electric sports car combines a sleek aerodynamic design with a carbon-fiber roof, active aero elements, and a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system. The powertrain produces an astonishing 1,583 horsepower and 929 lb-ft of torque, enabling a claimed 0-62 mph sprint of just 2.25 seconds despite its substantial curb weight.

A standout feature is BYD’s next-generation Blade Battery, which supports theoretical 1,500-kW flash charging. Under ideal infrastructure, the battery can recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately four minutes, highlighting the rapid charging capabilities Denza hopes will become increasingly practical as megawatt charging networks expand.

Equally impressive is the Deesis-M chassis-by-wire system, which integrates adaptive magnetorheological dampers, steering, braking, and powertrain controls into a unified platform. Using cameras and sensors to continuously monitor road conditions, the suspension can proactively adjust ride height and damping while also providing advanced safety functions, including blowout stabilization and exceptional maneuverability through rear-wheel steering.

Inside, Denza adopts a more restrained design philosophy than many modern EVs. Physical climate controls, configurable drive modes, high-resolution displays, wireless charging, and practical storage solutions are complemented by features such as suspension customization and motion sickness mitigation.

Sharing the same platform, the Denza Z9 GT offers a more practical interpretation of the technology. The electric shooting brake produces 952 horsepower, accelerates from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds, and utilizes a 122-kWh Blade Battery delivering up to 391 miles of claimed range. With generous cabin space, advanced rear-wheel steering functions—including crab-walking—and premium interior amenities, the Z9 GT demonstrates Denza’s intention to compete not only on performance but also on innovation and everyday versatility.
