American Might wins GT1

Last weekend Stephane Ratel launched his new GT1 World Championship with great success in Abu Dhabi. Held at the brilliant Yas Marina circuit, 24 supercars were racing at night including some old favorites like the Corvette C6R, Maserati MC12 and Aston Martin DBR9. New to the series was Reiter’s Murcielago LP670 R-SV which had a spectacular exhaust note.

With no lesser classes on the track, every car was vying for outright victory. After an intense hour of racing, Romain Grosjean and Thomas Mutsch won with their Swiss-prepared Ford GT. Not far behind were the two Corvettes of Phoenix Racing/Carsport which had to make up grid penalties of 10 places each.

Currently, this new GT1 format injects some much-needed excitement into the series which will stop in more exotic places like South Africa, Brazil and Argentina . The next round is in two weeks at Silverstone and the entire weekend will be streamed for free on GT1World.com.
