Automobili Lamborghini has officially handed over a new Temerario to the Italian State Police, continuing a partnership that has seen some of the automaker’s most iconic supercars serve alongside law enforcement for more than two decades.
The handover ceremony took place at Lamborghini’s headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese and was attended by Italian Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi, who was welcomed by Lamborghini Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann and members of the company’s Board of Directors. Prefect Renato Cortese, Central Director of the Traffic, Railway and Special Units Police, was also present on behalf of Chief of Police and Director General of Public Security Prefect Vittorio Pisani.
Unlike a typical police cruiser, the Temerario will have a particularly specialized role. The 920-horsepower hybrid supercar will be used for high-priority duties, including the emergency transportation of human organs and critical medical supplies.
The Temerario becomes the latest chapter in a relationship between Lamborghini and the Italian State Police that dates back to 2004. The partnership began with a Gallardo, which performed its first organ transport mission in September of that year. It was later followed by the Gallardo LP 560-4 and Huracán, with Lamborghini police cars deployed along major motorways across Italy.
The fleet was expanded again in 2023 with the addition of a Lamborghini Urus Performante.
In total, six Lamborghini vehicles have joined the Italian State Police fleet over the past 20-plus years. Together, they have participated in more than 200 organ-transport missions across Italy, with several missions directly contributing to saving lives. The cars have also appeared at more than 1,500 road-safety education events aimed at promoting safer driving.
A 920-HP police supercar
The latest addition is arguably the most technologically advanced Lamborghini police car yet. The Temerario combines a new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with three electric motors, producing a combined 920 CV.
That powertrain gives the Temerario the performance expected from a modern Lamborghini while adding the electric capability and efficiency necessary for its specialized emergency role. In the hands of the Italian State Police, the supercar is intended to provide rapid response when every second matters.
Lamborghini says the new Temerario represents a new phase in its relationship with the police, demonstrating how the company’s performance technology can be put to work for the wider community.
The partnership also highlights a particularly unusual aspect of Lamborghini’s history. While its road cars are primarily associated with extreme performance and exclusivity, the company’s State Police vehicles have spent more than 20 years serving a very different purpose—helping transport lifesaving medical organs across the country.
The Temerario’s arrival was also accompanied by the presentation of I motori della Polizia, a new book produced by the Institutional Communications Office of the Italian State Police and published by Giunti Editore and Giorgio Nada Editore. The book documents the history of the vehicles used by the Italian State Police, covering everything from automobiles and motorcycles to specialized vehicles, while exploring their role in the broader history of the institution and Italy itself.
With the Temerario, Lamborghini and the Italian State Police are once again combining Italian automotive engineering with a distinctly humanitarian mission, putting a 920-hp hybrid supercar to work when its performance can make a genuine difference.
