  4. Why do some cars run E10 and others in the same class run E85?
     
  5. That's the joy of sports car racing. Every team has their own answer to the question of who can make a race car go the farthest, fastest.

    If you're running an LMP you have many decisions in order to create your package including:
    -Chassis manufacturer
    -Engine manufacturer
    -Tire Brand
    -Fuel Type

    GT Cars have also get to choose their tires and fuel type.

    For some (like Corvette), running E-85 doubles as an ad campaign to promote their E85 flex fuel road cars. E-85 also makes slightly more power than the E-10, but doesn't burn as efficiently. E-10 is the standard fuel for those that don't care to be "green", although it is more efficient than the E-85. The Audis and Peugeots are running diesel fuel and the Dyson Lola Mazda LMP1 runs on Iso-Butanol!

    Sports car racing is interesting because on top of the fact that the cars all look and sound differently and there are multiple classes racing at the same time, there's also the competition between the fuel makers, tire manufacturers, etc.

    IMSA equalizes everyone with ballast and air restrictors and if you saw any of last years' battles, the system definitely works (aside from the diesel to regular gas equivalency).

  7. The battles between them are often epic, but yes, it is a drag that no one else will really challenge them.

    Although with the new LMP regs this year, you never know what could happen.
     
  8. I'm hoping Audi and Peugeot crash out/engine failure/etc. at the 24 Hour Le Mans and Pescarolo sneaks in and gets it. That would be awesome.
