Or people breaking the world speed record on a bike. Or the hour record. Or not climbing hills. Or not doing trackstands or foot-down competitions or bike jousts. Cool though.
They are terrible for hills. I am going to buy a nice road bike long before I make another recumbent.
Speedplays are nice but the cleat is pretty bulky. I use Look Keo Carbon pedals. http://www.raddiscount.de/images/shop/P03859_BILD2GROSS.jpg Super f'ing light, look good, work better then any other pedal i've used. Super hard to get out of, which I like.
Here is my new road bike that they are on. 2007 Felt F3. Full carbon frame. Dura Ace shifters, front, and rear derailleurs. Ultegra brakes and cranks. Ksyrium equipe wheelset (upgrading soon.) Hell of a road bike.
Those are some badass wheels. The guy I got the speedplays from rides on Zipp 404s, which are cool as hell, light as hell, and stiff as hell, but he says they break all the #$%#ing time and really aren't that high quality of a product overall.
does noone like Single Speed XC bikes? ;_;
i already posted lol it's a Gary Fisher Rig. 29" wheels FTW!
i took it for a test ride before i put my deposit on it and it was awesome. i really didn't expect the 29's to make that big of a difference, but it just rides so smootly over things that would possibly knock a 26" wheeled bike off course. wicked deal on it too... they'd bought a load cheap from Trek (who apparently own GF now) so instead of like, £800 or something they were £450. I got the last one they had . OH and i was a bit wary about the whole single speed thing, but as it has longer cranks to what i'm used to (from what i could tell) and it obviously has a smaller chainring, it felt like the perfect ratio to build up speed nicely.. and the 29's just coast forever.
