I'm bored and uh, that's what a "General Chat" is usually used for, chatting.
I can't say that I know that it does, I know that Heaven is the end of suffering.
I believe it to be a tragedy because while heaven is the ultimate goal our existence here on earth isn't meaningless.
I can tell you that I am not a Christian because of tradition, peer pressure, depression, or being mislead.
Anyone who believes in something because of something like peer pressure, is an idiot.
Do you honestly think that every single one of the billions of Christians/Jews/Muslims/etc believe what they believe for no reason? Do you honestly think those people have never thought 'WHY believe in this?' Do you honestly believe every Christian is dumb? There are no professors/teachers/scientists/doctors/etc that are Christians?
If you do, you are a fool
1) Christ lived a sinless life. John chapter 8, Jesus looks to his enemies faces and says 'which one of you can prove me guilty of sin?' and his enemies were silent.
2) his ethical teachings "do unto others as you would like done to you" etc... they arent the teachings of a mad man, they have the ring of truth
3) he died such a violent death, yet he didnt curse the people, instead, he looked up and said 'father forgive them for they know not what they do'
4) The claims Jesus made of who he was ... he was either speaking truth, or he was a liar.
5) first hand written accounts of his rising from death. These people were wimps that deserted Jesus when he was arrested and taken to the cross, but something happened 3, 4, 5, 6 days later, which made these people become some of the most courageous people on Earth, and who were martyred for what they went around preaching after that. They died for what they claimed to have seen, not for what they believed.
He appeared risen from the dead over a period of 40 days to different people at different places.
James, the younger brother of Jesus. He didnt believe Jesus .. would you believe your older brother was human form of god? of course not. But James became one of the leaders of the first century church. Why? Because he had seen the dead Jesus risen from the dead.
The way he lived his life, the ethics he taught, his forgiving nature upon his death, and way he rose from the dead. That evidence does not point to him being a liar or a mad man, ... logically, it points to him speaking the truth.
6) historical evidence shows the bible is a reliable source of historical events and people. We even have non-biblical scripts, by historians such as Josephus and the like. There are letters from the first century church quoting the gospels. Its been carefully preserved and Jesus was a real person. We have a very accurate representation of Jesus thought and teachings through first hand accounts.
.... all you have to do is read it and ask yourself, 'does the evidence point to Jesus Christ being reliable or not?'
(sorry everyone, I had to make a reply, because the person I quoted just made such a silly claim ..... this thread is gonna go on forever )
Ahhhh! What are you thinking?!! Extending a valid argument on a General Chat Forum? You Sir, are unbelievable. Honestly though, I'm trying to keep the Bible, or any other form of religious literature, out of the argument and just talk about God in general.
Heaven may be the end of suffering but the road getting there counts as well. The suffering doesn't just cancel itself out or not exist anymore. Once your in Heaven, grand scheme or not, the suffering still happened , which in turn makes God wrong.
I don't see how because those that believe in God suffer that it makes God wrong. I guess it's because I still don't see the connection that because He created us and gave us free will that it makes Him responsible for what we choose to do.
Where is the evidence for Jesus?
Because when it comes to historical accuracy I always thought the first testament was the one to look at, and the second testament was all shit.
Pain and suffering is wrong, correct?
Pain and suffering can be evil yet I still fail to see how God is responsible for that.
who else believes Jesus, like God, was an alien?
Its also like blaming Karl Marx for the killed people under various Commie regimes.
Because Marx is as powerful as God...
According some of the Commies, yes.
Using circular reasoning is another prime example of what makes you people so insane. You repeatedly use the Bible as evidence to believe the Bible, seriously, are you retarded? And yes, the billions of people who have been part of religions that blindly worship an unprovable God are ALL fools. Your kind work against the advancement of mankind.
Do you really think historical accuracies somehow validate the stories that they surround? The correct name of a town or evidence for the existence of a person are NOT proof of what they did. Also, heres food for thought: God relied on the sins of Judas for his plans to be fulfilled. The ENTIRE point of Jesus existence was hinged on one man betraying him. And i don't know about you, but if i had seen this man raise people from the dead, heal the blind/cripple/diseased and feed thousands of people with enough food for a few, im pretty sure that i wouldn't doubt his claims, much less betray him.
written accounts of Jesus resurrection? did you also know that the Catholic church originally had to sift through many many "gospels" to arrive at the 4 you know today? These other "false" gospels also contain elements of truth and historic fact. knowing this do you find it possible that just maybe these "written accounts" might not actually be true?
never under estimate the power of stupid/misled people in large quantities.
in other words no, numbers mean nothing.
Do you really feel comfortable with the fact that you've already been judged for things you haven't even done? Your God knows your future no? (did Jesus not tell Peter his future? that kinda rules out God not perceiving our passage of time in the same way that we do doesn't it?) then your God also knows how he will judge you. the same God that created you. how does that make you feel? THESE are the things you ignore. No i dont believe that every christian is dumb, however, they ARE all ignorant.

This thread is an abomination. Everything past page 2 acts as a hallucinogenic/permanent brain damager.
EDIT: Smited may be the worst member ever.
Everything HSV has posted in the thread is 10x worse.
hey! what do you know? another post of christian insult with no substance for discussion! i bet your God is patting you on the back right now.
Funny or not you don't know the reasoning behind Judas' actions, so you can't say anything about that. Not everyone is like you.
Ofcourse God knows what we will do but he gave us the option to choose what we want to do. I think you're implying that God created one set outcome for each person's life, like we have a destiny that can't be changed, and if it's the wrong one in God's eyes then he will judge that person accordingly. First of all neither you nor I know the real answer to this. I personally don't believe that, partly because like you said it would make absolutley no sense for God to that
Haha... I haven't believed in God since I was about 11. You just suck incredibly bad, because real, good, tolerant individuals, unlike yourself, actually dialogue with the faithful.
