Is this a race worthy car?

Discussion in '2002 Bugatti 16/4 Veyron Preproduction' started by Richard Owen, Aug 9, 2002.

  1. Do you think we might see this design in motor sport racing? Is there potential for a Lemans entrant here?

Bugatti back in racing would be awesome!<!-- Signature -->

i would think it would have problems with the air restritors, but then again look at the viper

I don't think this car is Race worthy. I would like to see Bugatti back in racing, but with a different style car. More Aero dynamic. Not saying this isn't.

  5. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

Bentley is in LeMans, Cadillac is back in LeMans. I don't see why Bugatti couldn't build a car to race.<!-- Signature -->

  9. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

I think it may have a chance with a race verison in Lemans.

But i dont think it would be very common as a race car, on account it is not track orientated.

    +1 good question.

  10. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

Ya it could be.....didnt u see the speed &accelration?!
This is 1 of the best cars i have ever seen. But it doesnt look that nice , though .
    NO offence , Buggati lovers.

  11. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

Well why wouldn't they?If not LeMans then they surely will make a racing model forone reason or another.

  12. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

I think it's entirely possible that the Veyron could be made race ready for a race like LeMans. The problem is that the engine would actually need to be detuned because there's no way that the FIA would allow a 1000-hp beast to race against cars producing around 600 hp. Also, the Veyron would need to be put on a diet. If this car weighs around 4000 lb. as many of us are guessing, the tires would be a problem. The Bugatti would be in the pits having tires changed far more often than the other cars. The Veyron could easily shed a lot of weight by gutting the interior, removing sound deadening, deleting the power everything, replacing the windows with plexiglass, replacing the wheels and tires with lighter racing-spec units, and eliminating the AWD system to run RWD as I don't believe FIA currently allows AWD at LeMans. There you have it. My two cents.

  13. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

The weight reduction part would be simple. This cars main purpose is the interior, and alot has gone into that, so just strip the whole interior, and you would lose a #$%# load of weight i think! That would mean the tyres would last longer, it would handle better and go faster! This does have potential for races i think now..

  14. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

    IS bugatti race worthyu ask?

Let me put it this way,

If u take out all the luxury interior, have it lower to the ground, increase boost of turbos (slightly), and get the worlds grippyist tyres, then u mihght just have a record breaking lemans car

  15. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

I dont think you would have to increase the boost. Just detune it. Strip it, etc..

  16. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

With Volkswagen financial support, I think Buggatti would be more likely to enter an LMP car than to run the Veyron as what would probably be a GTS car. Caddy, Audi and Bentley all have cars, it would be neat to see what Buggatti could come up with.

  17. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

i dont see why this couldnt be a racecar, obviouly aerodynamics shudnt be a prob in a car that can top out at 250 or whatevr. lets say the car weights 4000, as for weight. i think they could cuz down the wieght fairly easy. if no awd is aloud, then take that off, thats 300 right there. the interior must weight a ton, specially with those big ass diamonds >P. also, beacuse id be detuned, i think you can lighten some or the loadbearing parts. heh, first time you can ever make a racecar less overbuilt then the roadcar.... also, if you put a buncha carbon fiber on it, thatd take off quite a bit. they also might even do a dif engine for it if ya can, im sure a 16/4 is heavy as hell. maybe theyd drop it downto the VW w12? iono.
well, thats my say. if i could id give ya +1 for the topic, but i cant. >(

as for the psycho ferrari guy... get a life and stop spammin. and even if you are gonna spam, put a point behind it or at least turn off the caps.

  18. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

You made some terific points there, i commend you.

But one thing there is incorrect, the engine in this is already very lightweight and compact, due to the magnesium and alluminium parts used in it, so you wouldnt need to put a VW W12 into it.
Yeah, carbon fibre replacement body parts could be a good idea also.

I think with this car, they would do the same thing McLaren did to the F1 for it to become the GT and GTR, thats if they are to race this thing anyway. I doubt they would, simply because they dont need to i think.

  19. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

Ok ya well I think we have our answer to this threads point in all these great posts! Tthat was a great topic actually well deserving a plus rating. Good job.

  20. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

well done. Couldn't of put it better myself (and yeah, i didin't think of most of that) But u realise guys, that if u take of all that weight, it reduces the force onto the ground, so it will create worse handling, aswell as being much faster. They should do all of these things to the car (except different engine), and have a driver that is up 2 it

  21. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

Yeah but when it weighs too much it just sucks.

  22. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

    I gave it +1

Richard Owen. Well hes one of the owners.

  25. Re: Is this a race worthy car?

I agree that Bugatti would be more likely to enter an LMP car, but the topic of the thread was if the Veyron be made into a race worthy car, and I think the answer is yes. I'm not saying it's likely to be done, only that I think it's possible it COULD be done. And if Bugatti did come up with a LMP car, that would be great! Could you imagine the dominance of the Volkswagen Group at LeMans with Audi, Bentley AND Bugatti entering LMP cars?
