1. What do you think?

The XJ220 would probably beat the XJR-15. The XJ220 was the fastest car at the time it was introduced and it has more horsepower(540 vs 450) and torque(475 vs 420). This is because the XJ200 had 2 turbos. Despite its advantage in the horsepower and torque stakes it loses out on the accelaration from 0-60 (4.0 vs 3.1) but comes back strong later on (0-100-- 8.0 vs 8.2). Then it goes on to a much higher top speed (214 vs 185 mph). But the XJR-15 is a true race car while the XJ220 was a road car hence you never know what will happen out on the track. If anyone knows just let me know.

XJ220. Need I say more?

4. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

Definately XJ220, it is much sexier

5. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

No way. You obviously know nothing about Jags if you say XJ220. The XJR-15 was faster than the XJ220 in every way except top speed. It was based around the XJR-9 racing car and was built by TWR. Need I say more?

6. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

Well the XJR-15 was the PROTOTYPE for the XJ220, they said the engine took up too much space so they took a ford engine and turbocharged it.

7. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

No it was'nt its prototype. JaguarSports boss asked Tom Walkinshaw( who owns TWR) to make him something better than the XJ220. In fact the board at Jaguar did'nt even know about the XJR-15 until its launch because JaguarSport knew it would be cancelled if they found out about it. The engine out of the XJ220 was a twin turbo charged version of the engine in the MG Metro 6r4 rally car, this came about because TWR developed the engine for the 6r4, bought the rights for the engine when Group B rallying came to an end and replaced the V12 from the XJ220 concept because it was deemed to heavy.

This car has style and performance..
The Xj220 has World Class style and better performance..sure the XJR15 may get up and go a little quicker but which would you rather have on your driveway? ....XJ220 is the dream car.

9. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

hey actually I'd rather have the 15...I think its still one of the prettiest looking cars in the world...plus theres the uniqueness being only 50 n all...oh, and suck on it lefties, RHD only!

10. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

the V-6 was used in the XJ to reduce space used, so they could make it smaller than the 15, and jaguarsport make the 220 also

11. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

i would like to say 220 but 15 would beat it on track

12. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

i would go with the xj220

13. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

The orginal XJ-220 prototype utilized a V12 and AWD but the AWD was removed for the production car, and the V12 was replaced by a twin turbocharged Rover V6.

The XJR-15 was a project coordinated with the constructor TWR (Tom Walkinshaw's company who also did the Nissan R390-GT1, note the similariries), and the JaguarSport motorsport division. The XJR-15 is a much lighter car and is honestly a race car undernieth.

As for me, I'll take the Peter Stevens (McLaren F1) styled XJR-15 anyday. I've been lucky enough to see one in person. It's raw and minimalist; svelte and beautiful. The Lawson designed XJ-220 is also a pretty car.... but WAY too fat, way too big, and way to plush. TWR did, however, convert some XJ-220 models over to the XJ-220S spec models that were a whole lot more racy. Still, I'll take the XJR-15, thank you!

I think that both might be making an appearance in my driveway within the next 10 years or so, so in all honesty I could really care less. The XJR-15 is quite a spartan car with very little comfort in the cockpit. The XJ220 though, my dream car, would be the one I own (first).

16. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

I don't know anything about the the xjr-15's handling but if the handling is better than the xj220's then it would probably stand a chance out on a track otherwise I think the xj220 would beat it.

17. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

The XJR-15 for me, it will always be more of a true racecar for the road. The picture on this website doesnt do justice as to exactly how beautiful this car is. Here a better pic, theres heaps more on the web.

The thing that bothers me most in the world is when people say that jag's are ford inspired. Just because the CEO of ford happens to be the CEO of jag doesn't mean that ford does shit for them... they only thing ford has changed about jag since it aquired them is making a poor-man's jag, which is the complete opposite of what Jag stands for.. the new poor-man's jag looks like a flucking buick... the comparison between ford and jag is pretty much the same as saying chrysler inspires the looks and performance of mercedes... have you ever seen a chrysler sebring and a sl500 or cl600 sitting side by side at a light... i mean seriously, I would put money on the face that they are the most incomprable 2 similar cars made by the same company ever.

19. Jaguar XKR-Trans Am for me

By far, the XJ220 is better than the XJR-15, soley based on history performace, high speed, and its track times.
However, if i have a choice of Jaguars today.
I'll go for the new
XKR-Trans Am.
6.3L V8 with 700 HP
see, that's what we're talking.
XKR-Trans AM is my pick

I say the XJ220 is the car I would choose, firstly it looks better handles like its on rails, and is just better.

21. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

only thing i'd say is, Jaguar is still producing the XJ-15 enginge,
and the XJ220 enginge was put to rest
but it might get a revival in the future, to be seen in the X-Type, for GT racing.

22. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

XJR 15 you obviously dont' know it's original specs. these are the detuned street car specs. the original car which was raced in the 1991 European F1 season. they were 725hp.

23. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

and 4 of the cars released on the street came w/ the 725bhp 7.0 liter engine, w/ the TWR hewland 6spd. dog box. It could easily take the 220

24. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

personally, i like the xj220, but on the track, the xjr-15 would probably win out over the xj220...

shame the batmobile needs a grappling hook and steel cables to turn a 90 degree corner at high speed...but its still a great car

25. Re: JaguarXJR-15vs.XJ220

I'd take both of them.
