    My favourite Aussie slang is 'old mate'.

    You usually use it in conversation with your real mates to refer to someone behind their back who you don't really know that well, who is the butt of some joke you have, who keeps popping up all the time and who is annoying. Typical kind of 'old mate' is Kenny from Seinfeld http://seinfeld.wikia.com/wiki/Kenny_Bania

    "Oh look, here comes old mate again"

  5. That would be 'Ahi', the 'h' being that throaty letter a lot of people find hard to pronounce.

    And actually, we often call Arabs - including Palestinians - 'Bnei dodim', which means cousins.
