Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

Discussion in '1997 Porsche 911 GT1 Straßenversion' started by vansbmx90, Aug 10, 2002.

  1. Which is a better car in your opinion? I am only curious as to which is better in your opinion as far as handling, top speed, price, etc.

    CLK GTR , no doubt.

But you should have compared the 1998 911 GT1 to the CLK GTR.

The CLK GTR outperformed the 911 GT1 on nearly every race in the 1998 FIA GT championship.

  3. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

    Porsche 911 GT1 without a doubt<!-- Signature -->

  4. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

the CLK got ***** slapped at le mans by the GT1's

  5. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

I think Mercedes CLK GTR is little faster than Porsche 911 GT1.

  6. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

I would say the Porsche GT1 since it is 1 fine piece of german enginering!!!

  7. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

anyone have any info about that GT1 98? street model i mean, cant find it here on supercars.net.....

    thanks

  8. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

GT1 because of the price of the CLK.

  9. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

same and look how sexy it looks to

  10. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

CLK-GTR would win in terms of acceleration, and top speed as well (the listed 191 mph is for a really short gear ratio, it's not its full potential). I'm not sure about handling.
And saying that the Porsche is better just because it's cheaper is retarded. I mean the Corvette Z06 costs 1/3 the price of Ferrari 360 Modena. Both cars have similar performance, so the Corvette must be a lot better, right? I don't think so.

  11. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

CLK-GTR all the way, the 911 GT1 isn't really a challange, unless it's a good driver. the CLK-GTR has a major advantage with acceration. It is a little over priced though, but oh well

  12. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

    posrche

  13. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

LOL!!! Ya, judging by the Le Mans. This beats the CLK!!! The CLK-GTR is a bit too overated!!! It's a kick ass car but its not worth 1.5 mill!!!

  14. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

    and Mercedes isnt?

  15. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

the gt1 it owneall at lemans - the definitive automotive race.

  16. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

GT1, anyday. It looks so much better than the CLK IMO.

  17. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

Tough choise, maybe the CLK is a bi better. Even if this is a relly good car.

  18. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

    CLK GTR for me <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/emoticons.html"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="http://speed.supercars.net/cboardhtml/emoticons/smile.gif"></A>

    I wondered how it goes from 60 to 100 in just 2.3 s (5.7-3.4)

    2.3*60/40=3.45 s

It shows that it relativly accelerate from 60 to 100 same as 0 to 60.

  19. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

    GT1, naturally.

The regulations were in favour of atmo engines but Porsche reverse the status quo till the absolute perfomance of Le Mans domination.

GT1 road version is more pure and unmodified for the road that the CLK. GT1 still is the most efficient machine for sport going you may find on the street. Even F40 LM can't follow it. And I doubt Enzo could.

McLaren F1 is almost an innocent sedan near this demon.

  20. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

Tiff, when testing the GT1 said that hed rather go with the Porche than the Mac F1, so it better be pretty good ...

  21. Re:

Gt1 ,the CLK GTR is way more expensive and heavier(1650kg)

  22. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR

First off, the idiot in the modded supra should get lost. These are two of the best supercars to make it past the guards in Stuttgart and all you would see is the shiny tailpipes of these excellent cars.

There can be no contest when ignoring the price - the CLK GTR wins In 1997, the GTR stormed to victory on the track, where it counts, beating all comers including the 911, F1, Storm and Panoz. the factory team won all but one round where all cars retired, finishing with Bernd Schneider (+ Ricardo Zonta) as champion and Klaus Ludwig (+ Mark Webber) second.

In 1998, Mercedes ditched the GTR and brought out the all new CLK LM which bore many similarities in style to the GTR. The factory cars won every won all 10 rounds of the championship, with Ludwig/zonta winning and Schneider/Webber second. The drivers title went down tot he last race.

The Le Mans win that everyone refers to does in fact refer to a different car, the CLR, another redesign to accomodate rule changes. The CLR was famously flipped by dumbreck at 200mph (+ Webber in practice) and although he was unhurt Mercedes withdrewn all other cars, including one that was leading at the time.

Also Driven in the UK did a TV raod test of this guy in Saudi Arabia who had a SuperSports (7.3) CLK GTR, McLaren F1, F40, F50 and a 911 GT1 and he said that the CLK was his favourite. (AMG upgraded his engine when he joked that his 911 was faster! and have since made a supersports model - also on this site)

    http://www.supercars.net/cars/2002@$Mercedes-Benz@$CLK%20GTR%20Super%20Sportg.html

In concluion, the 911 GT1 is a phenomenal car, but it is bettered by the CLK, an even better car, from the inventors of the car (guess who likes mercs).

If you dont have any intelligence, like supra boy, then dont reply to this.

  25. Re: Porsche 91-GT1 vs Mercedes CLK GTR
