We've got to hand it to Porsche – the company certainly knows how to pull our heart strings. As if we weren't already been smitten with the 918 Spyder, the automaker has the audacity to wrap one up in its historic Martini livery before sending it out to the Nürburgring for testing. Up above you can see it lifting a wheel at the Little Carousel.

We're not sure what motivation is behind Porsche's nostalgia, but whatever it is, it works.

The monochromatic white and matte black finish looks phenomenal on the 918's sinuous curves, and despite the fact that this is clearly no show car, it's our favorite look for the 918 yet. Under the bodywork sits a hybrid powertrain pushing out 770 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque (up to 700 lb-ft for short periods using overboost), which is enough grunt to hit 0-60 (96 km/h) in 3.1 seconds.

All that's left to do now is wait and save our pennies – it will cost US$845,000 when it goes on sale in September of 2013. So. It's a little out of our price range. We can dream, can't we?

  2. Looks hot in Martini racing trim.

  3. Man, that exhaust alone invalidates all other supercars.

  4. Invalidates? come again?

  5. please make the production model without those stupid looking front wings.

  6. How about cancels out?

  7. *canards

That video would make sense to post in the first thread about the 918 from last year.

  14. this is just a Porsche Carrera GT with hybrid and updated motor for 2014. will drive just as dangerous as the prior million dollar death trap.

  15. yeh

  16. ok no, you're wrong

  17. am i the only one who thinks the front end evokes the ferrari 360/f430?

  18. The headlights look very F430 and the front bumper like a 360 Modena yes

  19. The headlights are 360ish.

  20. Look again. There are two 918 Spyders in the video. The 918 RSR and the production version, unveiled at the end.

  21. You're right, I thought the road car one in the video, which just seems to be the original concept updated with the new exhaust system layout, had been shown in that state before, but I guess not.

  22. I can't begin to explain how incorrect you are.

  23. MindlessOaf.

Porsche 918 Spyder Revealed in Production Form- Video

Porsche has released more than one set of images of its upcoming 918 spyder concept, but now the production version looks like it has also been revealed.

The video apparently comes from an official Porsche 918 spyder production reveal event, although this isn’t confirmed. It does look just like the liveried versions we have seen from Porsche, except this model is in a plain grey. The beginning of the video shows off the liveried version we have already seen, while the unveil takes place at the two minute mark.

Getting its power from a 4.6-liter V8 based on the engine found in the original RS Spyder LMP2 race car, the latest from Stuttgart promises 770 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque thanks to its gas-powered engine and pair of electric motors.

    See video here: http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2012/08/porsche-918-spyder-revealed-in-production-form-video.html

Edit: Video doesn't work for me.
