On top of that, i own a mercedes AMG ML55, and a Lexus IS300. I drove the S2000 as a daily driver for 6 months. I am qualified to talk about this car. I have an HKS exaust, comptech strut bars, and small cosmetic touches. Most of you can't really understand, but, if you drive a mustang, any mustang, then get in an S2000, it will leave a good impression. Everything is more precise. By the way, i had a Camaro Z28, and an Impala SS(when they had the LS1 in them). I dont hate large displacement american engines, i just dont care to own another one, since the gas bill was almost more than the car, after a few years. So, if you havent driven an S2000, you have no right to diss it. My S2000 runs a 13.7, i've beaten a few corvettes, and mustangs, in fact, the only car that ever beat me, was a porsche carerra. With those mods 13.7 is a little hard to believe... Q. What was your trap speed? Q. What was your 60ft time? An Impalla with an LS1??? Post quick we're all waiting. ok...I don't see whats so hard about this, i have exaust, and a free flow intake, and gain .2seconds over the stock S2000 time, thats not so hard to believe. Around 1994-1996 Chevy made a car called the Impala SS. It was basically a caprise, with better looks and an LS1 engine, around 245hp, i think. I also find all your comments annoying. All the horsepower and torque means shit if you cant drive. michael shumacher in a 5 speed Honda Del Sol could kick any average person's ass in a Cobra R, no question. So, skidpad, track times, slalom, factory 1/4mile times, and 0-60 times dont mean shit, unless you can do them yourself. Get a G-tech accelorometer, practice, then you can talk shit again.
i disagree about the "michael shumacher in a 5 speed Honda Del Sol" comment. you would have to be a piss poor driver to loose with that advantage.... i suppose it would depend on the venue, but in about 95% of the cases i bet an average driver could beat him. As long as it is not your first time racing you should beat him by a LARGE margin.

You're using a G-tech, that explains you not knowing 60Ft times(not 0-60mph time, im not at all interested in that) and not knowing your trap speed. I suggest you go to a track where you can get your real times, and not some guess from a g-tech. I still say 13.7 with those mods is a little ambitious. So you need to get creditable results (i.e. at the track), before quoting g-tech times. Oh... the Impalla SS from 94-96 used the LT1, the LS1 did not appear untill 97 in the corvette and 98 in the f-body's. And was never used in the Impalla. Yes I do practice.... at the track (Sacramento, CA raceway)... and so I really do know my shit.
IS300andS2000, I hate to tell you this, but even IF 13.7 1/4 mile time is accurate, there is no way you beat that list of cars! Just go into the Corvette forums www.c5forum.com and www.corvetteforum.com. You will see the times that C5 owners are posting, 90% of them are AT LEAST very low 13s, many of them in the 12s, and a few in the 11s. Not only is it funny that you're saying you beat "a few" Corvettes, but you're also saying you've ONLY lost to a Porsche Carrera! So you've raced many, many times in your 13.7 car and you've only lost to that one car?? It obviously doesn't make sense that you're able to beat 12-13 second cars repeatedly, driving a car that usually does 14s and you claim does 13.7
I have just bought my brand new 2002 S2000, and I have to admit that this car SUX.. just kidding ofcourse. This car deserves all the respect in the world. Now so that this comment doesn't upset anyone, I have previousely owned American cars, and loved them truly. Previous cars I owned were a 92 T-bird with the 5.0 L V8, a Man. Tran. 93 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, a Man. Tran. 94 Ford Probe GT, and an Auto Tran. 96 Camaro Z28. I have so much respect for the Z28, and do bow out of respect for it being the cheapest HP/Buck sports car in the market. The handeling was wonderful as well. However, trying all these cars, I do tend to have a different feeling when it comes to power delivery. the Camaro was darn fast, so is the S2000, but you just cant compare them. I just look at at that way; I hyped about the Z28 and how powerful yet low cost my car was, and it could beat many sports cars that are more than double its price, and now, I am hyping about the magnificently powerful small engine of the Honda, and it's Race ready nimbel handeling. You guys have to drive the S2000 1st, try out the fun for a change, forget the raw/extreme power for a while, and I am sure you'll love it. Ofcourse, you can always throw in some decent Mods. and the car will turn into a wild beast, guaranteed.

g-tech. kinda explains enough for me. Not the most accurate measuring device. No magazine in the world would use it most of the use corvetes. That would most likely explain why the time reading is slow low (nearly a second over a stock car.) There's no way this thing would keep up with a 2000 model WRX stock.

I think it is possible - but not easy - to beat some of the cars he listed in the S2000. As I've said before, I drive a 5-speed, 4 cylinder Accord LX (i.e., w/o VTEC), but I've kept with a friend of mine, in his '98 Maxima, through the quarter. To prove the point I made at the beginning of the post, I have to say that the reason I won is that I am a much better driver han he is. He lit up his front tires on both launches, got toque steer, and couldn't handle it. Then, he caught the rev limiter in first and second and proceeded to sidestep the clutch at every shift. I was ahead of him up to 50, even with him through 75ish and then he was two car lengths ahead of me at the finish. He should have beaten me by 3 seconds, at least. In my mind, an I4 Accord vs a Maxima is as outrageous a matchup as an S2000 and a Cobra R. The Mustang should have won, but it is possible that it didn't. One race doesn't determine a car's performance ranking. It's also possible that he's a big fat liar.
You guys should consider other markets when you want to cast a vote on whether Americans are successful in making cars and sports cars. I know this comment might bug some of the domestic lovers, but truth must be told. In the US, for instance, people are buying almost all cars from all different manufacturers/countries. people with money, most of the time prefer to "show off" by buying imported euro supercars. Might be because there aren't any totally exotic domestic machines, but still when it comes to the cars with similar price range, most people tend to go with the imports (i.e Cadillac/Lincoln Vs. Lexus/Mercedes). economical/compact or large size sedans, people are shopping for and buying both (dom.&Imp.), based on personal preferance. But! lets leave the US for a change, and investigate other countries and other markets, and check whats happnin. In the middle east, Africa, Far east, it just shows that American made cars are tagged with a big (irreliable) sign on the big front windshield. they are known to consume more fuel than other cars(I don't totally agree with that). And the most dreadful notion of all is that people bare in mind that Americans do NOT make cars to live long, yet they make them for the temporary user who wants a car for no longer than 3-5 years use. For some reason, Amercan cars tend to "age" faster than other cars (resale value is lower as well EVEN in the US). hmm now this could get really lengthy, so I would much rather talk about the S2000 for a change. For some reason the US version of the S2000 is rated @240HP, while the Jap/Middle East version is rated @250HP. Now talking about the one I currently have, I clicked the 1/4 @13.9 sec at the track with 1/3 tank of fuel. my car is absolutely stock with only 2500KM on its Oddometer. couple of runs I got 14.1 Sec, so I guess it all comes down to driving after all. Finally, for those of you (no disrespect) who are continuosly dissing and laughing at the S2000, why are you even on this forum? why is the exessive care and enthusiasm? .. hmmm weird !? P.S. Motor Trend posted a 14.2sec 1/4 mile for the S2000 in their road test (Nov 99 issue).
Hmmmm.....while I was in Korea you could pick up a "drivable" car there for 22,000 won. ($200 dollars US)
first of all, i want one of these things!! 250hp out of a 4cyl, damn! second, i am tired of these people who seem to think that a ford mustang is a fast car. what are you people smoking?!?! i drive an NA 300zx and i have to idle my car when i exit behind one from a stop light because if i hit my gas, ill rear-end it. i am sure ill get all kinds of stats about 300+ hp mustangs and how fast they go, but i have yet to see one that even stacks up to my sister's eclipse! third, half of these "domestic" cars are being made in other countries to cut labor costs. meanwhile, nissan has a truck factory in tennessee. so which car is the real import?

And it doesn't make 240 horse power until 8300 RPMs. Being that torque AND RPMs are the only two engine factors used to calculate horse power, guess what having X horse power at really fxcking high RPMs mean. LESS torque. At 8300 RPMs cars are running 36.7% less torque to be exact. Horse power is just a calculated number, torque is REALLY the force turning your wheels. Getting (reletively) high horse power from a 4 banger isn't really the tricky part, getting a decent amount of torque is. Since you've never seen a 300+ horse power Mustang that goes really fast, I'll tell you where to look. Any Ford dealership that sells SVT Cobras. I take it you don't get out much. Mustangs don't stack up to your sisters Eclipse? The only way that's true is if her Eclipse is modified. If you think being able to MAKE a car go fast is so special, maybe you should go to www.turbovan.net and see an 89 Dodge Caravan that does 12s smoke a Z28. I'm sure if that minivan raced your sisters Eclipes, she'd then want to run out and buy one for herself.
240 or 250, i still want one, they're cool as hell! have you ever seen one of these things on the inside? and about the svt cobra, if it takes ford a $45k mustang to compete w/ ricers, then they can have it. as for the eclipse, yes, it does beat a mustang. v6 of course

A Camaro beats a Mustang for cheaper also. Are they the 1999+ GT's? Are they 1994 5.0s? I will admit that 1996-1998 where not the greatest year for the stang GTs.
Now can we really compare Mustang Cobras to Honda S2000s? hmm thats an Odd way to compare cars. Technically speaking, the S2000 is a much "finer" car than most american made sports cars, including the Vette. Just by checking the car around, without even having to drive it. Honda even uses a better body paint! look at the Vette or mustanges for an instance, fast and tourquey Vehicles, but definitly NOT fine made. lets say the Z06 costs $35000 to be manufactured. Chevy must've invested $30000 on the engine, and then was left with $5000 to be invested in everything else... now thats shameful! .. and thats why when you sit in a Honda NSX, or a Porsche 911 and then instantly jump into a Viper, or a Vette, you'll feel how cheap quality everything around you is (except for the engines though). P.S. SeansVette for your info Jap/Middle east S2000s are [email protected] not 240.
no, no, my sister's eclipse beat a v6 stang, i don't even bother with them. i don't even race. i am just tired of reading shit on these forums about these "fast" mustangs. they are pieces of crap. you can't even shut the hood hard or the thing will break. as for my local ford dealer, they don't carry the cobra svt. in fact, the fastest mustang they carry is a bullet. seansvette, why do you care about mustangs? you have a CORVETTE. you're faster than any of the before mentioned cars, so why bother w/ them? if i had a corvette, (i want a Z06 badly), i would no longer bother w/ eclipses, 300zx's, and especially mustangs. you sound bored. i recommend a playstation 2

that is BS, my friend's mom had a gt stang and she broke the hood in half. and an SVT cobra for $30k? not likeley. actually we were both off, i went and checked the $ at ford and it is at least 35 and at most 40. so, its a $40k mustang. for that price you could almost get a new vette to rape it, or go to you honda dealer and get an S2000 so you won't get laughed at too badly when you pull up at a race, not to mention have an extra $10k in the bank. another point not brought up is that the mustang will break down about twice to three times as fast as that honda, and will take more maintainance to do that. this could be do to the fact that mustangs are crap

Because when the rest of the people do the research on the price of the 01 Cobra (new), they'll know which one of us is the liar. And yes the 01 Cobra would smoke the S2000 and tose it like a salad.

Quote from 300zxdriver we seem to be forgetting that we are putting a 4 cyl honda against the best ford makes, haha. and my money's still on the honda. its better made. unlike engine parts in the USA, japanese parts can be machined insead of cast. if you know anything about building processes you will know that this will produce a product that is much more resistant to pressure. normally a better tranny on the honda also.(maybe not in this case but, once again, my money is still on the honda). it also redlines very high, this helps give the car better acceleration. and once again, companies can say what they want about power. for example, one guy i know has a 95 impala ss. he said it was rated at around the 200hp range.(haven't checked for sure) it is the fastest 4-door i have ever ridden in (over 160 on track), displaying more than any 200hp car i have ever ridden in, so obviously there was more involved. what i am saying is that hp is just a very specific rating. torque is even worse, the ferrari 360 has in the upper 200s on torque and it will spank a stang, badly. i don't care what kind of stang it is. its not about your engine's power, its about getting that power to the wheels.

Are you saying that the S2000 isn't the best Honda can do? I think the Formula 1 engineers that built the engine would be hurt to hear that. I agree that the construction techniques of the S2000 are far superior to those of the Mustang. The 360 Modena against the Mustang is kinda funny, but I don't agree. Torque has EVERYTHING to do with acceleration, and the huge difference in crankshaft torque ratings between these two cars won't be made up in the drivetrain, no matter how beautiful the Ferrari is. The 360 is fast, but it's no drag racer. There are 50,000 Mustangs that could beat it in a line and on a track. Of course, anyone in the world would still take the Ferrari over the Ford.
