Re: plane and simple... VIPER SUCKS!

  1. sup peeps, don't hate on peoples cars, they all have tight features of thier own, the viper's has to be the sheer power, the m3 it's awesome looks and chevrolet well.....um, er...

  2. The Viper has power. But the look is getting old. The corvette
(when it first came out) Changed the body style in the first 9 years.
But Viper has been going for more than 12 years. Its time for a facelift.

  3. thats where the 2003 comes in

  4. I doubt i've ever seen such a stupid argument for why a car "sux". The hugely lovable dodge engine may be large, but it also produces more horsies than a texan rancher. If you wanna cry because the M3 has fewer cylinders than the dodge and thats why the viper kicks its ass, tell BWM to do something about it. Maybe a nice 8 or 9 litre engine would make the M3 a little more interesting.

    Love the dodge.

So, um...are you unaware of the 1982-1996 unchanged bodystlye for the vette? Didn't think so. By the way can you do math...the Viper came out in 1992, so kids whats 2002-1992? And you do in fact understand that this is called the final edition for a reason, it is the last of the current generation Viper. The second generation viper goes on sale this summer. -enough said-

do a fair comparison --- the M3's got a 6-cyl , not a 10-cyl like the viper ..... if M3 had a V10 ... it would kill the Viper, so take ur viper and shove it up ur ass where it belongs and don't insult the M3 again ....

oh and by the way... U SUCK

Oh wait lets recap, THE M3 DOESNT HAVE A V 10!!! so there is no reason to say, "if it did than, blah blah blah"

The viper is BAD ASS. I have driven several vipers ( a couple pretty awesome tuned vipers) and have the awesome pleasure of knowing the best viper technician around, the man knows everything and can do amazing things with that car. The potential is everywhere, but it doesnt really need it, pullin 60 times in 4.1 seconds (motortrend) stock and quarter times in 12.2 (motortrend) stock, potential is there but that car doesnt need it.

As for handling!!! holy shit man, that is what this car was made for, from the ground up, handling! Look how far back in the engine bay the engine is mounted for balance, and the suspension is a completely independent suspension (rear and everything) and pulls close to 1 G on the skid stock (actually .96 from motortrend) and goes through the slalom at 72.5 mph (also through motortrend) thats some bad ass handling. I have also had the benifit of taking it through some hard turns, and long curvy roads, and it is amazing, difinately supercar status.

The looks IMHO are beautiful and elegant, altough it is about time for that facelift coming next year.

Saying that this car sucks is like saying that eddie Van Halen sucks at guitar, he may not be your thing but no matter what, the man/car is amazing.

Well Said my friend, well said. I also had the pleasure of driving a 98 Viper GTS, although it was stock and I didn't get to play with it much, I can say it gave me a grin that lasted a week!

  8. I have to diagree. I must say that you are entitled to your own opinion, but saying that they suck is kinda, well.... not smart. Yea. I gotta admit. I used to not like Vipers too. They only excell with huge displacement, sparse feautures to save weight and lots of cylinders. Yea. I see where U can say they suck cause they use brawn over brain, but I still think they are pretty good for 'cheap' speed. Good lookin too.

  9. I apologize for the mix up. I meant to say there was no such thing as a 1983 'Vette, not '82. Sorry for the inconvenience. Chevrolet did not have enough time to meet the Government's required regulations by model year '83, leading to a "lost year". Again, please forgive my previously mentioned typo. Anyway, Vipers are still excellent cars, and I will miss the first generation's muscular design.

  10. i dont think its sucks. i love the sound of the engine and its styling but i think its a little underpowered compared to other cars and its handling isn't up to par with the corvette

  11. How can u say VIPERS SUCK. GO to the compare sectionon this webpage and put any of the new vipers against anything in (production)against it. it will beat most of the cars in there.

    ______________________________________________________________________
I think FORD is just jealous thats why in a way the probes look like little vipers in away

  12. CANT WAIT FOR THE NEW ONES IF I HAD 100,000+ lyin around ill get one. IT should have a little more HP though. 460,the RAM SVT-10 concept that they have on this page has 500 HP. ITs only a V-8. WEll i guess a big block will do that. Just face it people. MOPAR makes the best engines. BIG BLOCK THAT IS. Thats why they got kiked out of NASCAR for 30 years. THEY were to powerful. NOthin couldnt keep up. Richard Pety isnt the king causehe drove a ford. HE drove a DODGE. NOW That they're back in just give them a few years and they'll be back up on top. They've done pretty good so far. 1st in the DAytona 500 and 2nd last week.

  13. OH MY GOD. Probe looks like a viper????? If were talking about the same probes, that is the v6 coupes which precede the cougar, then you must be smoking some strong sh#t.

As for the discussion. Vipers are NOT my type of car. I dont like them at all. But to say they are crap, is just plain stupid. They were built to go hard in a straight line, firstly. They do this very well..
And as for handling, im sure they handle very well...but i couldnt say to the standards of other high performance supercars like ferrari, porsche, and the vette..

Either way, they might not e the most efficient or practical car, and i dont like them much at all, but they do serve their purpose very well...they achieved what they were built to do.

In the end, thats what counts. Whether you like it is just an opinion.

P.s. I think the new viper looks MUCH better then the old. I just dont know if the "slight" change in shape will be enough to save it from a change in future design trends for long enough. Truthfully, the difference in looks isnt TOOO great..

  14. Please, all of you

GO F U C K YOUR GRANDMA UP THE ASS!!!

This car is magnificant, it has a huge engine, so what?
That's what makes it unique, so stop putting it down.

  15. man u #%$ american piss me off the viper is for old white ppl that have shit loads of money from selling pigs and cows and need to look cool so they buy a viper ,viper is a fast good looking car butt the imajme i get from it is midd life crisis

  16. Any of ye hear of hennessy motorsport u should check out what they did to the vipers i do not think the viper sucks what sucks is that i cant afford 1 yet!!! check out the 800tt if something i think for heavy engined car like that its impressive what it can do like 0-60 in 2.4 seconds i believe maybe 2.7 eitherway still fast off the mark and top speed of 237mph just check it out or ye all wimpy honda civic fools

  17. Mopar or no car!! When did having a huge engine be considererd bad? A "too big engine" is an oxymoron. The Dodge Viper is one of the best cars in the world. I wanted one so bad when I was younger, but I'm very fond of my favorite car, a Dodge Challenger. That's why there's one in my garage. Those cars came with ridiculous big blocks like the 440 Magnum V8 and the 426 Hemi V8 that pumped out gobs of torque and loads of fun, just like the Viper's 488 V10. If you can't handle a Mopar big block, step aside and let a real driver ride the Elephant. No replacement for displacement! Kowalski lives!

  18. the 0-60 in 2.4 was on cheater slicks and hardly a real number. look at what it hit on street tires and thats what it runs. still fast but not 2.4 seconds fast. and yes any moron who has heard of the viper knows of hennessey. and its not a dodge hennesey.... as soon as he gets his hands on it the dodge part drops. just like saleen mustangs... you dont call them ford saleens. too many people try to make the same points but the ones on their heads beat them to it 90% of the time. and dodge wasnt kicked out of nascar for having engines that were too powerful. it dropped because the win on sunday sell on monday thing wasnt workin as well as it had previously and after the arab oil embargo they smartly stopped trying to spend money on engines that guzzled gas. i bet your one of those people who worships the shelby gt500 not knowing that it blew ass in races because it was too nose heavy. the gt350 was king of the tracks

  19. wait a sec i was just about to go to bed when i actually read this little gem of a post... PLANE and simple are you one of jerry's kids? did you have a relapse to your terrorist training camp? how do you expect to have people take a post like this seriously when you cant tell which version of a word to use. holy hell what a moron.

The viper is embarassing to fans of american cars. it makes us look like the only way that we can get any hp is by putting in a 8 liter truck engine

So winning at Le Mans GTS is embarassing? Running 247mph on Bonneville Salt Flats with a turbocharged street legal car is embarassing? Your ignorance is showing.

  21. Leave it to the experts. This is from the Feb. 2002 Motor Trend, and I quote:

"Behold the Mack Daddy of 'em all: the all-conquering 8.0L/450-hp V1--powered Viper has set numerous magazine and racing series records. It's endured challenges by one-off boutiqu cars and the likes of Ferrari. As subtle as a sledgehammer, the rear-drive GT-S fastback coupe or RT/10 removable-roof roadster even won a Motor Trend "What's Your Favorite Car of All Time" poll- not to mention three consecutive class wins at Le Mans. What's left? We'll have to wait until '03 to find out what another 50-plus horsepower, new bodywork, and further chassis refinement can accomplish. We feel sorry for the other guys."

In short, what they are trying to say is: There is no doubt that the Viper is easily one of the best cars in the world! Plain and simple...

  22. noone really wins lemans anymore... they make sissy engines that cant take the 24 hours and most of them sit out for awhile only to limp their cars over the line to claim they finished. they need to detune to keep them a bit more to make them a bit more reliable.

  23. The Viper is no doubt a car of ability. anyone who denies this by saying the viper sux is either increadibly immature or just pain stupid. when a car doesnt suit your taste, it doesnt mean it "sux". The car does what it was built to do. That is what counts. Also, it apeals to its target market. What more could Dodge want?

"the viper is one of tha best cars in the world". Well.... one of the fastest for sure.. to say "best" is a very generalised statement, and hence hard to confirm. However, there is a deegree of truth to the statement no doubt.

Do I like Vipers? no i dont. I feel that Dodge has really taken the "easy way out" by taking the biggest legal engine they could and stuffing it in, rather then using something of more "normal" displacement and letting technology and engineering excellence do the rest.

However, you could see that quite differently also. You could say that companies like Ferrari are wasting their time by putting so much effort into gettung similar power out of a much smaller engine, when all they have to do is put an 8 litre one in themeselves and get similar power/torque with much less effort.

You see, every argument has 2 sides. I personally like to know that an exotic supercar costing as much money as a Viper, or especially a Ferrari, is putting every ounce of their ability to get the very best they possily can out of what they have...hence, I favor efficience.

To spend a lot of money on a car and no they did little more then stuff a huge engine in makes me much less likely to buy that car, and sees me respecting the car makers less.

My philosophy is, when you pay for a Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes, Lambo, Aston...etc, you paying a great deal for the huge amount of effort that went in it's design, development and production....

  24. I am not a big fan of Viper especially with the contreversy of John Hennessy. I like this one.

  25. i agree here, the viper is way to damn expensive and it makes american car lovers look like crap
