Hey I own a XR4ti and it’s like this: It is a ford of Germany car that is just like the Ford Sierra but has a few differences. One of the more obvious, aside from the emblems which do say Merkur (and they changed the Merkur emblem in 88 to just the word Merkur instead of a little diamond shape kinda thing with Merkur written in it and the wing was also brought down to a single wing instead of a double wing), is the extra post in the rear side windows of the car. If you look in a Merkur, even on the door wells you will say it says ford, but its still in a way, a Merkur. Even on the key, you will see the ford logo. But on the out side of the car it’s a Merkur (German for Mercury) Xr4ti. Sorry if I just repeated someone else.

so what your trying to say is.. its a Ford

    Now it doesn't work.

  3. This car has the wrong name !!

Where i come from (England) this is a ford sierra has a whale tail and is driven everywhere by owners at full throttle regardless of pedestrians, traffic, or anything. you know this ?

  4. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

this is not the ford sierra, it was made by a german company (merkur) but used ford parts, later on ford bought them out.

  5. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

  8. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

you are quite mistaken although the two cars in question are in a round about way the same car, Merkur has always been a Ford company, they used the SHO Mustang 2.3L turbo engine on these but they made a few modifications to it, being like the Cavaliwer/Sunfire, Talon/Eclipse, Camaro/Firebird, it's been done with lots of other cars, they made this car and the ford version, but sold them with different options to split thier income on the cars so the could hold a legal monopoly of the automotive world, if I've lost you it's all basic economics, this car is actualy a Merkur XR4TI

  9. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

it's the cavalier and the sunbird.....the sunfire is completely different

  10. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

Actually the new Cavalier and the Sunfire arethe same car with a differnent body kit

  11. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

Sorry shefx but you don't know what you are talking about. While the Merkurs (The Scorpio included) were built in Germany, they were just another division of Ford. They made up the Merkur name to make it sound exotic and Europian, but Ford, being the Putts' that they are sold the cars through Mercury dealers. Now I ask you this; What does a Salesman who is used to selling big ol' Grand Marquies with the V8 know about a little 2-door Europian sports coupe with a 2.3 litre 4 and a five-speed??? That's why Merkur was only here for four short years (1985-1989)

  14. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

dude no its a merkur, merkur is its own company they also made the scropio ,which is also a very good car. merkur is just another division of ford, just in europe.

  15. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

So shefx, the fact that in Europe there is a Ford Scropio is nothing more then a big coincidence??? WOW! And you'd think a big company like Ford would get that name copyrighted or something. Well shefx, you may be wrong, but at least you're Canadian. That makes two of us.

  16. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

so what if theres a ford scorpio, they are made by the same company you know, trust me this is a merkur, my neighbour owns one i have riddin in it, i see it everyday it says merkur.

  17. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

To put an end to all of this banter let me just say that the Merkur Xr4ti is a German Ford. Same engine as the SVO(not SHO)Mustang. But why argue? I think that we can all agree that this car is a straight up unknown street racer, no matter if you are in T-dot or in the Van City.

  18. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

ok, this is how it is, i owned one of these, the one in the picture is a merkur xr4ti. the one i had, was also but came with a little different set up, i.e. mustang SVO wing ( most came with the SVO but some came with a smaller one ) and factory MOMO wheels, if you go to europe then it is called the ford sierra, kinda like if you buy an Infiniti IS 300 its called a toyota altezza over seas. for those of you that think that merkur was actually a company, no, it was like someone said a exotic name that they thought would sell cars, the xr4ti had things only german cars had back then i.e. heated seats, imdependent rear suspension, though the name change didnt work. sierras did get a different engine option though, ?L V-6 and 2.0L I-4, and i have seen a few that were all wheel drive ( god that would be awesome ), but they are the same car. whats funny is if you would go over to your friends that has one of these and pop the hood it says ford all over it, so do the factory speakers and most of the interior parts, the merkur badge even says " Ford werke Koln, Germany "it is a ford no doubt about it and is the same car as the seirra. and i agree if you meant buy this car has the wrong name that they should have found a sierra pic and posted it as such, they were much more of a supercar than the U.S. version, most made 300hp in cosworth 2.0L I-4 trim

  19. this is a merkur xr4ti, we in the uk had the xr4i as well, 2.8 litre v6 150hp, but the sierra had 1.3 litre ohc, 1.6 ohc, 1.8 ohc, 2 litre ohc and 2.3 v6, then they made the xr4x4 2.9 v6 4 wheel drive 150hp, all models underwent changes through the years but the most modified of the bunch are the xr4i and xr4x4 versions with bored out 3.6 litre and 3.7 litre aftermarket engine swaps, turbo technics did make a 325 hp twin turbo 2.9 litre version as opposed to na fueling straight out of the ford showrooms. one of my freinds got hold of a janspeed twin turbo converted 450hp 3.5 v6 xr4x4 and it used to shoot 6 foot flames out of the side exit exhaust and romp on to 185mph, the car cost 5000 uk pounds a few years back when it was already 10 years old.

    xr4i below

  20. Re: This car has the wrong name !!

Weather this car is a Merkur or a Ford, it still looks like a Sierra and probably performs like one too.

team.

    Cam1

well you should look at some of the power output's in england .there are alot of genuine 500+bhp (4 cylinder)(dyno proven)..Sierra cosworths out there..mostly using the standard engine YB engine

i have to agree the merkur is a ford and it has a (pinto) ford engine in it... Built by ford euro (sierra is the uk/euro version)

Ford also done a ford sierra XR8 in Austrailia which has the mustang V8 engine in it same body as the merkur

in the uk it's called Sierra xr4i it has the same body/same type of body kit and has is a 2.8 V6 N/A engine injection..

the Sierra 3dr cosworth is slightly different to the XR's..it has different rear quarters panels.different body kit. it use's a twin cam ,16 vavle, T03 garrett turbo, YB cosworth ford engine but based on the pinto (205) block, with steel crank, steel rods, mahal pistons, soldium filled valves 204 bhp 206 ftlbs standard/stock what is used from the merkur is the dash and the clocks with the little boost gauge in the corner ..the sierra cosworth uses a borg waner T5 gearbox manual (transmission)

it has a 7 1/2" viscous coupling limited slip Diff 3.65 ratio

The Rs500 is really an evolution of the 3dr Sierra Cosworth, it is very simalir to the 3dr..revised rear fin ,lower spolier, revised front bumper and has a splitter. it has a the same engine but with a thicker wall (205) block pinto(YBG).. it is a twin cam ,16 valve, garrett TO4/0E turbo, 8 injectors , extra fuel rail .. a bigger intercooler..slighlt revised suspension and geometres..224bhp/227ftlbs stock/standard

    here are a few pics
The black one is a Sierra Rs500 cosworth and this white one is a Sierra 3dr cosworth

  24. Re: This car has the wrong name !!
