Chevy has revealed the drop-top variant of its popular muscle car.

Arriving in early 2016, the Camaro Convertible features an electro-hydraulic power roof system that can be operated at speeds up to 30 mph. The roof is fully automatic and can be operated by a button on the key fob.

The Camaro was always designed to be a convertible model and features a hard tonneau cover that hides the soft-top roof fully under the belt line of the car when it is down.

“With many convertibles, you have to affix a tonneau cover manually – if it’s done at all,” said Tom Peters, design director. “The Camaro convertible’s automatically deploying hard tonneau not only makes it easier to enjoy convertible driving when the inspiration hits, it ensures the car always looks its best.”

Performance options remain identical to the hardtop Camaro, offering a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 275 hp, a new 3.6-liter V6 with 355 hp and the current range topping engine, a 6.2-liter V8 which puts out 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. All of the engines are available with an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual.

The chassis of the new Camaro is said to be considerably stiffer than the the car it replaces while at least 200 lbs has been cut compared to today’s Camaro.

The 2016 Camaro Convertible and coupe will be produced at General Motors’ Lansing Grand River assembly plant.
