Bugatti 100 Expo - Bruxelles
I remember standing at the Callaway booth at the 1991 or 1992 LA Auto Show and watching the video of the Sledgehammer's top speed run (at Ehra Lessien, in Germany, I believe) loop on the video monitor multiple times in front of me. The sound it made as it passed the camera at 255 or so was just incredible.
Just a few feet from me was the Green/Purple Callaway Speedster on a stand, and on the floor underneath was a Yellow Callaway Coupe. Around the corner was the Vector booth. I remember it all like it was a week ago.
The Sledgehammer went through Barrett-Jackson not too long ago - maybe 2-3 years back. It was purchased by a guy who bought several other Corvettes as well.
I seem to recall a magazine article from way back when that mentioned a second Sledgehammer being built for a Japanese customer, but I don't know the facts on that and have never seen photos for proof.
its amazing that a 2 million dollar car is more commonly seen than cars costing half as much.
I know, how often do you see a Ferrari F50 these days? Well that happens to just be REALLY hard to spot for some reason.
Off Topic again - sorry.
I had the chance to meet Reeves Callaway this weekend, and we were discussing the Sledgehammer. He reminded me that they had done the top speed test for that at Transportation Research Center in Ohio, not Ehra Lessien in Germany. There was a normal Callaway that had gone over to Germany for one of the Road&Track top speed tests, but it wasn't the Sledgehammer.
Just wanted to clear up that mistake.
