    Looking at top ten most stolen cars in U.S. and Canada according to national insurance boards

    The top 10 most frequently stolen vehicles in Canada in 2011 were:

    2009 Toyota Venza 5-door

    1999 Honda Civic SiR 2-door

    2000 Honda Civic SiR 2-door

    2006 Ford F350 Pickup Truck 4WD

    2002 Cadillac Escalade EXT 4-door AWD

    2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS 4-door 4WD

    2007 Ford F350 Pickup Truck 4WD

    2001 Pontiac Aztek 4-door AWD

    1998 Acura Integra 2-door

    1999 Acura Integra 2-door

    The top 10 stolen vehicles on the 2011 U.S. “hot wheel” list were:

    1994 Honda Accord

  6. Yeah. The market had pretty much the same reaction you did.
     
  7. This just proves how dumb thieves are.
     
  8. Thieves do not go looking for automotive excellence when they steal cars. They want cars that have a high demand in terms of auto body and mechanical repair/replacement..mostly older hondas and pickups.

    Why an Aztek? Similar reason as the others. There are a bunch (unfortunately, in this case) on the road that need repair and body work.
    "Worse" for the Aztek:
    Pontiac is dead.
    There are 100,000 or so on the roads in total, car only ran 4 years.
    The Aztek probably has a costly parts support, but I imagine they are pretty cheap to buy initially.
    A car thief steals one, they strip it down, and sell the parts quick to auto body and repair shops. Those shops charge full retail (or close to) for the parts like they ordered them from the factory. There is a lot of money in it. And it is the 'shops' that often dictate what gets stolen.

    Higher end or popular vehicles that are stolen are sometimes re-VIN'd and sold.. but they are still worth a lot as parts.
