toyota vs. honda

1. holy shit are you serious? a Miata not a sportscar? please tell me youre joking, you consider a s2k sports car and a mx5 "sporty car" instead? lolololol
2. honda fanboys all think they're smarter than they really are. OMG VTEC MAKES ME SO SMART
3. For example, a WRX STi costs 84K american dollars.
4. WTF are prices os high for? Is it like the US with some imports where they're specially imported and not officially available there or something? Or are they regularly available cars and you simply get raped for them for some reason?
5. just trust that since you own a honda you must be smarter/righter than everyone else.
6. We get raped by taxes, hard... add to that the lower acquisitive power of the average citizen (compared to the first world) and you end up with a small car market. I remember each time I've seen cars that you see as common cars, like STis or EVOs.

7. I've driven STis and Evos!
8. Yea pretty weak... I hate governments and their high taxes. Bastards they are.

You could always move to America!!! You already speak English and everything. Hell move here illegally even, every Mexican in Mexico is doing it. Plus like I said at least you speak English already. Then you could probably afford an Evo or STi yourself in a few years.

10. I'll mow your lawn.
11. Try and steal an American's job, or yob as we call it
12. I'll also support democrats.
13. Sweet. We already have some immigrant mow our lawn actually. He speaks the worst English EVER. I think he's an aborigine(sp?). Can't understand him 80-90 percent of the time. We pay him 30 bucks every 2 weeks.

You did say you'd support democrats though... I dunno about that. Republicans are bad, but Democrats are worse.

What do you do where you live now? What are wages like down there? What's cost of living like? For some reason I'm interested in how much ppl make and much it costs to live in foreign countries. It just seems crazy how in some countries people live decent lives with many of the modern conveniences for hundreds of dollars US a month and whatnot.
14. HAHA! no way I'd vote the democraps. I'm libertarian as for american standards.

I work at a 5 star hotel as a sort-off a barman and a room service boy, depending of the day/occupancy rate, and I'm making around 350/400 dollars a month, pretty not bad for uruguay, were the minimum wage is SHIT/around 100 dollars. Food and stuff is #$%#ing cheap if you compare it to first world standards, but other stuff like technology or cars is like 2x of what you'd pay in the US/Europe. Gas is I believe one of the most expensive of the world, nearing 1.5 dollars.

One example, my last "expensive" buy a couple of weeks ago, was an IPod Video 30GB, the cost here at stores is around 650/750 dollars, while in the US it costs 300.
15. Well I'm a Libertarian too, that's how I voted in the last election... So nobody can blame ME for the stupid shit Bush is doing.

Is a large portion of the cost on the electronics and whatnot import taxes? And with the gas I assume you're talking 1.50 a liter?

Why don't you buy your electronics online? You'd save a ton even with the international shipping if prices there are that high. Hell if they're THAT high you could become an importer and start slangin' Ipods on the street corner for a hundred bucks more than they cost you
16. Yeah, 1.5 dollars a liter.

"Why don't you buy your electronics online?"
Because it makes almost no difference, due to taxes. Lets say I buy an iPod from an internet store located in the USA for a price of 300 dollars with shipping. When the iPod arrives here, the customs tax it, and when I go to retire it from the customs office they force me to pay the taxes in cash or they won't let me get my hands on it, so I pay, and end with a 600 dololars iPod instead of paying, say, 650 to 750.

The same happens with cars. Brand new cars, since we can't import used cars. Only a handful of people get the permission to import used cars, and THERE is were you can make money... the other day I was checking the ads and saw a 1991 Camaro Z28 Convertible (rare car here)... how much would you pay for that car were you live? think a number and scroll down...

$21K american dollars.

edit: BTW, I paid "only" 350 dollars for my iPod
17. That is insane. I don't think I'd pay anything for a 91 Camaro... The 3rd Gens don't do it for me. But in any case it wouldn't be worth more than a few grand even in good condition in the US. Container to south america would only be a couple grand more. Throw in 100 percent taxes on the item (no idea what they actually are, going off the numbers you gave for the Ipod), and you're probably still talking about making like 50 percent profit from the total invested even taking the import taxes into consideration.

Sounds to me like you need to bribe off a few government workers and get into the used Auto importing business... I could be your stateside buyer. Whadda ya think?
18. That's what MooSquad wants. He wants to be my european contact.
19. See there ya go. We can all have a nice happy time raping rich Uraguayans out of their hard earned money. It'll be sweet.

I've actually seriously thought about doing it before. It's insane. The prices old American cars fetch in Europe is outrageous, and the price old European cars fetch in America is insane... SO my plan was to have a Classic American car dealership in a rich city in Europe (London, Berlin, Paris or wherever) and then bring all our normal classic cars there and rape people, then take all the euro cars and setup a dealership in a big city here (New York, LA, Miami, ect).

I think it would work. It would cost a shitload to startup though. The only way I could see getting into it to begin with would simply be to try and broker for someone where you get cash up front. Then overtime you could start buying your own cars and sending them overseas on your own and making more money off the deal. The awesome thing with the classics is that in almost every country they're void from passing certifications and all the silly shit that REALLY jacks the costs up. You just end up with the import duties and what not, but cut out a lot of the hoops you have to jump through with newer cars.

WELL enough of my ranting. If you ever wanna do it, I'll scout out cars for you in the states
